Our football match prediction:
Hamburger play host to Augsburg at their Volksparkstadion in the opening match of the season. Die Rothosen secured yet another Bundesliga survival in the last season finale and they are now ready for new challenges in the German elite division. Hamburger were struggling to find their form in pre-season and it has to be noted that they failed to win last four warm-up games. A man to watch in the home team will be Serbia international Filip Kostic, who is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders in Saturday’s football match. Die Fuggerstadter finished the last season in 13th place in the standings, only one point clear of bottom three and, no doubt, they are eager to record a much better result in the upcoming season. A close encounter appears on the cards at Volksparkstadion and we predict that the two teams are going to share the spoils in their opener.
Highlighted Player (Mergim Mavraj):
Born in Germany to Albanian parents, Mergim Mavraj made two appearances for the Germany Under 21 side before switching his allegiance to Albania and he has since become a key defender for his new national team. The experienced centre back began his professional career at Darmstadt, but his talent was quickly spotted by Bochum scouts and he made a move to the Bundesliga side in 2007. Four years later, he surprisingly opted to join second division side Greuther Furth, but that proved a good career move as he helped the team secure promotion to the Bundesliga before putting in some solid showings in the Germany’s top flight. But, when his side eventually returned to the second division, he moved to FC Koln, where he has been since the summer of 2014. Meanwhile, Mavraj quickly established himself as an important player for the Albanian national team, establishing a good partnership with captain Lorik Cana, and helping the team secure their place at the Euro 2016 finals.
Highlighted Team (Augsburg):
Augsburg are a German football club founded in Augsburg, Bavaria back in 1907. Die Fuggerstadter play in German Bundesliga and with 12,200 members they are regarded as the largest football club in Bavaria. Augsburg wear white shirts and they host their rivals at WWK ARENA. The capacity of the stadium is 30,660 and it has been the home of Augsburg since 2009. Augsburg won the Schwaben Cup 13 times and it has to be noted that they were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2011. The club qualified for the Europa League 2015/2016 group stages and thanks to a 3-1 win over Partizan in Belgrade they booked their place in the last 32. However, Liverpool proved to be a big catch for the German outfit in the Europa League knockout stages. Die Fuggerstadter’s main rivals are TSV 1860 Munich and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other.
