Our match prediction:
Hertha failed to impress in the Europa League qualifiers, with the team suffering a loss to Brondby in the two-legged tie. The capital club failed to make it to the Europa League group stages, meaning that they will be fully focused on the national championship this season. Hertha eliminated Jahn Regensburg on penalties in their German Cup opener and they now aim to kick off the new Bundesliga campaign with a victory over Freiburg. Christian Streich’s men impressed in the German second tier last season and, as a result, they secured promotion to Bundesliga. Freiburg aim to record a good result on their return to the German top flight, but beating Hertha on the road is easier said than done. Pal Dardai’s men are a real force to be reckoned with at home and we predict that the likes of Salomon Kalou and Vedad Ibisevic are going to make life difficult for the opposition defenders in Sunday’s football match.
Highligted Player (Darida):
Born in Sokolov on 8 August 1990, Vladimir Darida is yet another Czech Republic footballer who has made a name for himself in German Bundesliga, although not before leaving his mark on the domestic competition. The highly rated midfielder, who can successfully cover a number of positions in the middle of the park, enjoyed several successful years at Viktoria Plzen, making no fewer than 28 appearances in European competitions, before deciding to leave for SC Freiburg. Darida performed so well in his first two Bundesliga campaign that he was purchased by Hertha Berlin when his previous employers got relegated to the second division, and he in turn helped the Olympiastadion outfit enjoy a thoroughly impressive campaign. Darida was a surprise inclusion to the Czech Republic squad for the Euro 2012 finals, but there were no surprises when he played a key role to help Repre qualify for the Euro 2016 tournament. He impressed playing in a more advanced role in the absence of Tomas Rosicky, and he has already earned more than 30 caps for the national team.
Highlighted Team (Freiburg):
Freiburg are a professional football club that compete in German Bundesliga. Freiburg were founded in 1904 and they welcome their rivals at Schwarzwald-Stadion. The stadium has been the home of Freiburg since 1954 and the capacity of the facility is 24,000. Die Breisgau-Brasilianer wear black and white shirts and black shorts, whilst the colour of the team’s away kit is white. Freiburg made it to the German Cup semis in the 2012/2013 DFB Pokal campaign, but their local rivals VFB Stuttgart proved to be a big catch for the Schwarzwald-Stadion outfit. After spending several years in lower leagues, Die Breisgau-Brasilianer returned to the German top flight in 2016. The likes of Levan Kobiashvili, Papiss Cisse, Sascha Rieter, Joachim Low, Zlatan Bajramovic, Mohammadaou Idrissou, Roda Antar, Sebastian Kehl, Richard Golz are the notable footballers who played for Augsburg in the past. It is well known that Joachim Low helped Germany win the 2014 FIFA World Cup as a coach.
