Our prediction for this Championship match:
Newcastle United are on an eight-game winning run in the Championship ahead of Saturday’s football match against Blackburn Rovers. The Magpies have been producing outstanding performances under Rafa Benitez this season and they are on the right track to return to the Premier League. Newcastle recorded a 2-0 over Leeds United at the weekend, with Dwight Gale scoring a brace in the Elland Road showdown. The former Crystal Palace attacker is enjoying probably the best season of his career and all eyes will be on him when Newcastle face Blackburn Rovers at their St. James’ Park on Matchday 18. The Riversiders sit in the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s game, but they came from behind to beat Brentford in their last league match. Anyhow, the visitors will have a much bigger fish to fry in the game against Rafa Benitez’s troops and we predict that they will return home empty-handed.
Highlighted Player (Cheick Tiote):
Cheick Tiote is an Ivory Coast footballer who plays for Newcastle United as a midfielder. Tiote is well known for his hard tackles and, as a result, he often gets booked. He was born in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast on 21 June, 1986 and he started his youth career at FC Bibo.
In 2005 Anderlecht scouts spotted him and he decided to join the Belgian outfit. Cheick Tiote made just four appearances for Anderlecht as he was sent on loan to Roda for the 2007/2008 season. On 2 October, 2008 Tiote joined Dutch side Twente for a fee (reportedly) of €750,000. He provided 14 assists for his teammates and scored one goal for Twente during his spell at De Grolsh Veste. In August 2010 he signed a contract with Newcastle United for a fee of £3.5 million and he quickly established himself as a first-team regular.
Cheick Tiote made 20 appearances for the Magpies in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but that did not help Rafa Benitez’s troops avoid relegation to the Championship. Cheick is married to Madah, who gave birth to their two children.
Highlighted Team (Blackburn Rovers):
Blackburn Rovers have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since they dropped to the Championship in 2012. The Riversiders compete in the English second tier and they play their home games at Ewood Park. Blackburn were founded back in 1875 and they are one of the founding members of the Football League (1888).
Burnley are considered Blackburn’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the East Lancashire derby. It has to be noted that Blackburn Burnley 7-1 in their first ever meeting in the East Lancashire Derby on 3 November, 1888. The Riversiders have won three First Division (Premier League) trophies (1911/1912, 1913/1914, 1994/1995).
Blackburn Rovers have clinched six FA Cup titles as well. Speaking of the club’s European success, the Riversiders won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007. The colour of Blackburn’s home kit is blue and white.
