Our football match prediction:
Champions League group stage opening comes at the bad time for Spanish champions Barcelona, who are coming off from a disappointing week in La Liga. Luis Enrique’s men suffered a surprising 2-1 defeat at the hands of lowly Alaves at the weekend and will be under great pressure heading into their first UCL match of the season. It all went down poorly for the Catalans who were unable to get their footing in the game as Alaves snatched an important victory thanks to the goals from Deyverson and Ibai. Blaugrana need to make an instant response and get back to winning ways after their first defeat of the season. Having in mind the individual talent Luis Enrique has at his disposal, winning against Celtic should not come under doubt. However, the Scottish powerhouse arrive to Camp Nou fully motivated following their comprehensive 5-1 Old Firm victory over fierce rivals Rangers. Brendan Rodgers’ side was firing from all cylinders with summer signing Moussa Dembele scoring a hat-trick in the biggest game of the domestic scene and there is no doubt that Celts will go to Spain looking to pull a major stunt against the favoured hosts despite the majority of match predictions do not speak in their favour.
Highlighted Player (Arda Turan):
Arda Turan is one of the most famous footballers in the history of Turkish football and he is widely tipped to break Rusti Recber’s record of 120 caps for Milli Takim. The attacking midfielder came to prominence at Galatasaray, while also impressing as Turkey reached the Euro 2008 semi-finals, and he immediately received offers from top European clubs to cash in on his impressive showings. However, it would take another three years before he finally decided to accept the call from Atletico Madrid, thus becoming the most expensive Turkish footballer. Turan played a key role for Diego Simeone’s side that impressed in both Spain and Europe from 2011 onwards, lifting the league trophy with los Colchoneros and narrowly missing out on the Champions League title. Achieving a superstar status in his country, Turan always performed well for the Turkey national team, making more than 90 appearances for Milli Takim before the age of 30, and scoring more than 15 goals.
Highlighted Team (Celtic):
The Celtic Football Club boasts a proud over 100-year long history which has made The Bhoys a global brand thanks to their unprecedented social awareness that dates to the very beginnings of this Scottish club. Celtic was founded in 1887 with the purpose of alleviating poverty in the immigrant Irish population in the East End of Glasgow by raising money to help their fellow citizens. The charity legacy continues to this day with Celtic still preserving their charitable traditions through the Celtic FC Foundation. The Celts play their home matches at Celtic Park in front of 60,000 people. One of the two most successful football clubs in Scotland with 47 Scottish League Championship titles to their name, Celtic have a long-standing fierce rivalry with Rangers, with the clubs known as the Old Firm. European Cup winners from season 1966-67 and runners-up two years later, Celtic have been regular in European competitions since their first appearance in 1962-63. Their other most standout results have been runners-up in the EUFA Cup in 2003 and Intercontinental Cup in 1967.
