Our match prediction:
First-ever meeting of the two sides will be Carlo Ancelotti’s second time he faces FC Rostov. The Italian played against the Russian side in UEFA Intertoto Cup while in charge of Juventus, and he will certainly hope to make a similar result to then 9-1 aggregate win. Bayern are firm favourites to dispatch the Russian side and kick off the Champions League group stage with a win. Having gone four matches without a single goal conceded, the Bavarians will also be looking for another clean sheet. What is more, 15 goals scored in four last matches are reassuring signs of Bayern’s impressive form and this match is not hard to predict and anticipate. Unlike their German rivals, FK Rostov have endured mixed start to the new season and their trip to Germany is unlikely to be a pleasant one. Despite being huge underdogs in their group, Russian side should be applauded for their Champions League qualification though, as FK Rostov managed to dispatch the likes of Anderlecht and Ajax on their way to the group stage of the competition.
Highligted Player (Robben):
Arjen Robben is a professional footballer who started his senior career at Groningen. In 2002 he joined PSV and after making 56 league appearances for the Dutch outfit, the pacey winger signed a deal with Chelsea in 2004. The Dutch ace helped the Blues win two Premier League trophies (2004/2005, 2005/2006) and he scored 15 goals in 67 league appearances for the capital club. Arjen Robben played for Real Madrid from 2007 to 2009 and he scored 11 goals in 50 appearances in La Liga. However, the club chiefs were not satisfied with his performances and they decided to sell him to Bayern Munich in 2009. Joining the Bundesliga giants was probably the best decision of his career as he has been winning titles with the German outfit year by year. Robben clinched his fifth Bundesliga trophy with Bayern Munich in the 2015/2016 season and in 2013 he scored the winning goal for the Bavarians in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. The Bayern Munich star was born in Bedum, Netherlands on 23 January, 1984.
Highlighted Team (FK Rostov):
Russian side FK Rostov were established in 1930 and have so far changed their name on five different occasions. Following turbulent times down the lower tiers of Russian football, Rostov returned to the Russian Top League in the final season of Soviet football, after the USSR’s disintegration. Kurban Bardeyev’s helped the club stabilize, and under his leadership Rostov maintained their place in the top tier and at the same time started making progress which resulted in 2016 UEFA Champions League group stage involvement. Rostov entered the third qualifying round as runners-up of the Russian Premier League, beating Anderlecht and Dutch giants Ajax on their historic path to Europe’s elite competition. Russian National Football League winners from 2008, and Russian Cup holders from 2014 have been made a surprise inclusion on the group stages of the UEFA Champions League which is their first-ever European notable result. Almost 16,000 people at the Olimp-2 will be privileged to watch the best European football in Rostov-on-Don.
