Our football match prediction:
Wednesday’s football game at Estadio do Dragao pits together Porto and Besiktas. The Portuguese side have been producing splendid performances at the start of the new Primeira Liga campaign and it is no surprise they are regarded as hot favourites to emerge triumphant in the opening match of their Champions League campaign. The Dragons did well to keep hold of star players in the summer transfer window and we predict that they are going to pick up all three points from Wednesday’s football game against Besiktas. The Turkish side suffered a heavy 6-0 loss to Dynamo Kiev in their last game in the elite competition and, no doubt, they are eager to make amends for the embarrassing defeat. However, considering that Porto have turned their Estadio do Dragao into a real fortress, we are tempted to put our money on Sergio Conceicao’s troops. In their last meeting in the Champions League Porto recorded a 2-0 win over Besiktas.
Highlighted Player (Casillas):
Iker Casillas is a product of Real Madrid’s youth school. He made 510 appearances for the capital club at senior level and many people expected that he would retire as a Real Madrid player. The 185-cm-tall goalkeeper, though, moved to Porto on 11 July, 2015 after losing his place in the starting line-up at Real Madrid. Casillas made 32 league appearances for Porto in the 2015/2016 campaign and he managed to keep 13 clean sheets in the process. During his spell with Real Madrid the left-handed shoot-stopper won five La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies and it is well known that he made good results with Spain national team as well. Casillas helped Spain win two European Championship trophies (2008, 2012) and he was part of the team that clinched the 2010 FIFA World Cup trophy. Spain defeated Netherlands 1-0 in the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa, with Iker Casillas impressing in the title game. He made a crucial save when Arjen Robben passed all Spain defenders with the score at 0-0.
Highlighted Team (Besiktas):
Besiktas football club is one of the most successful teams in Turkey. Since its foundation in 1903, Besiktas have never been relegated to a lower rank of Turkish football. Black Eagles as they are known in Turkey play their matches at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul which is an almost 42,000 all-seater capacity venue. Considered one of the top three football clubs in the country, Besiktas are the 14-time Super Lig champions who are entering the Champions League group stage in the 2016-17 season looking to make their presence known at the European scene. Besiktas have played in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League four times already, and are yet to progress through to the knockout sgateg in the competition that was established in today’s format in 1992. Their most outstanding European achievements of the Turkish side are the European Cup and UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 1987 and 2003, respectively. During their rich history the Black Eagles have also won 9 Turkish Cups and 8 national Super Cup titles.
