Our football match prediction:
Manchester City will be looking to build on a 4-0 win over Feyenoord when they host Shakhtar Donets at their Etihad Stadium. The Citizens aim to cement top position in Group F and we predict that they will stick to their attacking style of play. Pep Guardiola’s men have been scoring goals for fun in the Premier League of late and the attacking partnership of Kun Aguero and Gabriel Jesus has been in a perfect working order this term. Shakhtar Donetsk did well to beat star-studded Napoli at home in the opening match of their Champions League campaign, but their away record in the elite competition is anything but good and we do not believe that the Ukrainians are capable of spoiling Man City’s party at Etihad Stadium. It has to be noted that the two teams meet for the first time ever in the Champions League.
Highlighted Player (Sergio Aguero):
Sergio Aguero was born on 2 June, 1988 in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Sergio’s nickname is Kun and he used to play for Independiente and Atletico Madrid in the past. The Manchester City attacker has won two Premier League trophies with the Etihad Stadium outfit (2011/2012, 2013/2014) and he played in the Champions League semi-final with the Citizens in the 2015/2016 season. However, Real Madrid proved to be a big catch for Kun Aguero and his teammates in the semis of the elite competition. The Argentine forward won the Olympic Gold Medal with the national team in 2008, while lifting the FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy on two occasions (2005, 2007). Aguero scored 24 goals in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but that did not help Manuel Pellegrini’s troops win the national championship. Kun was married to Diego Maradona’s daughter Gianinna, but the couple separated in 2012. Giannina gave birth to their son Benjamin in 2009.
Highlighted Team (Shakhtar Donetsk):
Despite the fact that they were founded back in 1936, Shakhtar Donetsk were struggling to win the Ukrainian Premier League trophy until 2002. The Miners have established themselves as the dominant force in Ukrainian football and it has to be noted that they won their ninth domestic trophy in 2014. Shakhtar Donetsk were playing at Donbass Arena in the past, but due to war in Donbass the club temporarily moved to Arena Lviv. In 2009 the Miners won the UEFA Cup trophy under Romanian boss Mircea Lucescu, beating Werder Bremen in the title game. Croatian full back Dario Srna was named the man of the match. Dynamo Kiev are considered Shakhtar Donetsk’s main rivals and there have always been fireworks in meetings between the two sides. Shakhtar have a rivalry with Metalurh Donetsk as well and the two local rivals face each other in the Donetsk Derby. Chelsea ace Willian, Manchester United star Mkhitaryan and Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho all played for Shakhtar in the past.
