Our football match prediction:
Oblasny SportKomplex Metalist will host Wednesday’s football match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Roma. Shakhtar Donetsk aim to keep their 100% record at home intact and they are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach against the Serie A side. The Miners did well to beat the likes of Napoli, Feyenoord and Manchester City at home earlier in the process and that is certainly giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of the Giallorossi. Roma finished first in Group C, but they do not want to stop now. Eusebio di Francesco’s men aim to go all the way in the Champions League, but beating Shakhtar Donetsk on the road is easier said than done. A close encounter is on the cards and we predict that the two teams are going to play out a draw in the first leg. You should bear in mind, though, that Shakhtar emerged triumphant in previous three meetings with Roma in the elite competition.
Highlighted Player (Bernard):
After spending three years at Atletico Mineiro, Brazilian winger Bernard signed a five-year deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of €25 million. The left-footed player won the 2013/2014 Ukrainian Premier League trophy with the Miners and he was part of the Shakhtar squad that clinched the Ukrainian Super Cup in 2015. Bernard is well known for his brilliant technique and he is considered one of the fastest players in the Ukrainian Premier League. The Brazilian footballer represented his homeland at the 2016 Copa America and he won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013. Bernard made his Brazil debut on 21 November, 2012, coming as a substitute in the Superclasico de las Americas against Argentina. He represented Brazil at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and it has to be noted that he played all 90 minutes in an embarrassing 7-1 loss to Germany in the semi-finals of the showpiece tournament. Bernard was born on 8 September, 1992 in Belo Horizonte.
Highlighted Team (AS Roma):
AS Roma are a professional football club based in Rome. Roma were founded by a merger in 1927 and they play in the Italian Serie A. Roma’s fiercest rivals are Lazio and it has to be noted that both capital clubs play their home games at Stadio Olimpico. The two local rivals face each other in the Derby della Capitale, which is considered one of the most exciting derbies in the world of football. The Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds) have won three Serie A titles (1941/1942, 1982/1983, 2000/2001), while winning nine Coppa Italia trophies. The colour of Roma’s shirts is imperial purple with a golden yellow trim. A number of top-class footballers were part of Roma in the past, but Francesco Totti is undisputedly the club’s biggest legend. “The Prince of Rome” made his 601 appearances for Roma on 14 May, 2016 when the Giallorossi recorded a 3-1 win over Milan at Stadio San Siro.
