Our football match prediction:
Stadio San Siro will host Wednesday’s football match between Milan and Lazio, who face each other for the second time in just four days. This time out the two teams meet in the first leg of the Italian Cup semis and a highly entertaining game is on the horizon. The Biancocelesti have been scoring goals for fun in 2018, but beating the Rossoneri in Milano is easier said than done. The two sides are likely to adopt a different approach in the first leg; the hosts should rely on their solid defence, whereas Simone Inzaghi’s men are widely expected to stick to their attacking style of play. Anyhow, seeing that the game will be played at Stadio San Siro, we predict that Milan and Lazio will play out a draw on Wednesday evening. In their last meeting in Coppa Italia the Biancocelesti defeated the Rossoneri 1-0, thus the hosts must be hungry for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Zapata):
The versatile Cristian Zapata is a defender who usually plays as a centre back but can be deployed at full-back on either sides. Although he is naturally right-footed, Zapata is equally skillful with both feet which aids his versatility. Currently plying his trade in Serie A with AC Milan, he started his senior professional career with Deportivo Cali. He later moved to the Serie A club Udinese in 2005 ending up playing 168 games across six seasons with the club. In 2011, he moved to Spain with Villarreal but his stint was short-lived as he came back to Italy next season on loan with Milan. He signed permanently for Milan in 2013. Zapata has been a Colombian senior international since 2008 and was a member of their 2011 Copa America and 2014 World Cup squads. The 29-year-old is generally solid at the back and quick on the counter making him a menace on the wings.
Highlighted Team (Lazio Roma):
Lazio are an Italian football club based in Rome. Lazio were founded in 1900 and they compete in the Serie A. The Biancocelesti (The White and Sky Blues) have won two Serie A trophies (1973/1974, 1999/2000), while lifting six Coppa Italia titles. The capital club play their home games at Stadio Olimpico and Roma are regarded as Lazio’s main rivals. The two teams face each other in the Derby della Capitale and it is considered the fiercest inter-city derby in Italy. Lazio won UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999, with the team beating Mallorca in the title game. The same year they managed to clinch the UEFA Super Cup trophy as they outplayed English giants Manchester United at Stade Louis II, Monaco. The likes of Pavel Nedved, Giuseppe Favalli, Juan Sebastian Veron, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Roberto Mancini, Giuseppe Signori, Miroslav Klose and Simone Inzaghi are notable footballers who played for Lazio in the past.
