Our prediction for this Coupe de la Ligue match:
A place in the Coupe de la Ligue semis will be at stake when Olympique Lyon and Strasbourg face each other at Groupama Stadium on Tuesday evening. Les Gones set up a meeting with le Racing by beating Amiens 3-2 on the road and Bruno Genesio’s men are considered favourites to win the Groupama Stadium clash. Olympique Lyon are a real force to be reckoned with at home and we predict that they are going to adopt an attack-minded approach in Tuesday’s football game. Strasbourg, on the other hand, have defeated Lille and Olympique Marseille on their way to the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-finals, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry in the clash against Lyon. Les Gones do not suit le Racing and, taking everything into account, we predict that the visitors are going to return home empty-handed.
Highlighted Player (Memphis Depay):
Memphis Depay is a Dutch winger who started his professional career at PSV Eindhoven. During the 2014/2015 Eredivisie campaign the pacey footballer was on Manchester United’s radar and on June 12, 2015 the Premier League club confirmed the signing of the Dutchman. Many people expected that he would impress in the 2015/2016 Premier League season, but the former PSV ace played below expectations for the Red Devils, scoring only two goals (one assist) during the season. After playing only for league games for Man Utd in the 2016/2017 season, Memphis Depay was sold to Olympique Lyon on January 20, 2017. Depay signed a four-and-a-half year deal with les Gones for a fee of around £16 million. The Dutch winger was producing fine performances for Lyon in the 2016/2017 season; he scored five goals for the club, while providing eight assists for his teammates. Memphis Depay made his senior debut for Netherlands on October 15, 2013 in a 2-0 win over Turkey. Depay did well to win the 2011 European Championship with Netherlands U17 team.
Highlighted Team (Strasbourg):
Founded back in 1906, Strasbourg are a professional football team that compete in French Ligue 1. Le Racing did remarkably well to win the 1979 Ligue 1 trophy and that is considered the biggest success in the history of the club. Strasbourg won Coupe de France on three occasions (1951, 1966, 2001) and they have three Coupe de la Ligue trophies as well (1964, 1997, 2005). Strasbourg’s main rivals are Metz and the two teams face each other in the Derby de l’Est (The Eastern derby). Le Racing recorded their biggest victory over Valenciennes (10-0) in the 1937-1938 season, whilst they suffered their biggest loss to Limoges (0-8) in the 1959/1960 season. Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert, who is well known for his free-kick abilities, played for the club from 2000 to 2003, but he failed to score in a league match during his spell with the Stade de la Meinau outfit. Speaking of Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg’s home ground was opened back in 1914 and the capacity of the venue is 29,320.
