Our prediction for this Coupe de la Ligue match:
Thanks to Mateo Pavlovic’s late goal Angers eliminated Nancy in the opening match of their Coupe de la Ligue campaign. Les Scoistes aim to build on the victory and they are seen as hot favourites to win Tuesday’s football match against Metz. Angers sit in the relegation zone in the Ligue 1 standings ahead of the visit of les Grenats and, no doubt, a win in the League Cup will see them regain a much-needed confidence. Over the years les Scoistes have turned their Stade Raymond Kopa into a real fortress and we predict the hosts will defeat the out-of-sorts visitors. Metz are on the right track to drop to the Ligue 2 and we do not believe they are capable of upsetting Angers in the last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue. In their last meeting in Ligue 1 les Grenats emerged triumphant and, no doubt, Stephane Moulin’s men are hungry for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Wahbi Khazri):
After spending his youth career at JS Ajaccio and Bastia, Wahbi Khazri continued playing for les Bleus at senior level. The attacking midfielder, who is capable of playing as a winger as well, netted 31 goals in 171 league games for Bastia and in 2014 he moved to fellow Ligue 1 team Bordeaux. Khazri was producing fine performances with les Girondins from 2014 to 2016 and, as a result, Sunderland chiefs decided to sign him on 30 January, 2016. The Tunisian international, who was born on 8 February, 1991 in Ajaccio, Corsica, France made one appearances for the France U21 team, but he decided to represent Tunisia senior team on the international stage. Khazri played for Tunisia at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, but the Eagles of Carthage failed to make it to the knockout stages of the tournament. It has to be noted that the Tunisian international scored two goals in 14 appearances for Sunderland in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign and he certainly helped the Black Cats secure yet another top flight survival.
Highlighted Team (Olympique Marseille):
Olympique de Marseille are considered one of the best French football clubs. Les Olympiens won their ninth Ligue 1 title in 2010, but winning of the 1992/1993 Champions League trophy is seen as the club’s biggest success. Marseille defeated Italian giants Milan in the title game, with Basile Boli scoring the winner (1-0) in the Olympiastadion showdown. It has to be noted, though, that the Stade Velodrome outfit were banned from defending the title in the 1993/1994 season after being involved in a match-fixing scandal. To make things even worse for the fans, the club suffered enforced relegation to the Ligue 2. Olympique de Marseille participated in the Europa League final on two occasions (1998/1999, 2003/2004), but they were beaten by Parma and Valencia respectively in the title games. OM’s home ground Stade Velodrome was opened on June 13, 1997 and the capacity of the stadium is 67.394. The likes of Franck Ribery, Didier Deschamps, Didier Drogba, Laurent Blanc, Fabien Barthez, Samir Nasri, Fabrizio Ravanelli and Djibril Cisse all played for Marseille in the past.
