Our prediction for this Euro 2020 match:
David faces Goliath at Stade de Tourbillon as Switzerland and Gibraltar take on each other in the Euro 2020 qualifiers. The Rossocrociati aim to climb to top two in Group D and we are positive that they are going to go all guns blazing at the minnows. Seeing that they are a real force to be reckoned with at home, we predict that Switzerland are going to record a routine win over Gibraltar in Sunday’s football game.
A man to watch in the home team will be Granit Xhaka, who has established himself as a first-team regular at Arsenal. Julio Ribas’ troops, on the other hand, face an uphill task in the Stade de Tourbillon clash and seeing that they were outclassed by Denmark 6-0 at home in their last qualifying match, the visitors are likely to return home empty-handed from the trip to St. Jakob-Park.
Highlighted Player (Johan Djourou):
John Djorou is a former Arsenal defender who plays for Hamburg in Bundesliga. Djorou was born on 18 January, 1987 and he started his youth career at Etoile Carouge. On 1 August, 2003 he joined Arsenal and he made his first senior start for the Gunners in a 3-1 win over Everton in the League cup. Djourou made 86 league appearances for Arsenal, scoring only one goal for the capital club.
After spending several seasons on loan at Birmingham City, Hannover and Hamburg, he signed a permanent deal with die Rothosen in April 2014. The Swiss defender played 13 games for Hamburg in the 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign.
Speaking of his international career, Djourou, who was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, decided to represent Switzerland on the international stage and he made his debut for the Rossocrociati on 1 March 2006, against Scotland. Djorou represented Switzerland at Euro 2016, but he had been left out of the Switzerland 2010 FIFA World Cup squad.
Highlighted Team (Gibraltar):
Gibraltar played their first unofficial match against Jersey in the 1993 Island Games. The Gibraltarians suffered a 2-1 loss to Jersey, but they did well to hold Slovakia to a goalless draw in their first official international match. Gibraltar participated in the 2016 World Cup qualifiers and they were drawn in Group D alongside Germany, Poland, Georgia, Republic of Ireland and Scotland.
They failed to impress on their debut in the World Cup qualifiers and it has to be noted that the minnows suffered a loss in each of their ten group games (goal difference 2:56). Gibraltar recorded their first ever win against Malta on April 6, 2014 and that is considered the team’s biggest success.
Danny Higginbotham, who played for the likes of Manchester United, Southampton, Sunderland, Stoke City and Sheffield United during his professional career, has three caps for Gibraltar national football team and he is considered the greatest player who whore Gibraltar shirt. The Gibraltarians play their home games at Estadio Algarve, speaking of qualifying matches.
