Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Roma kick off their Europa League campaign with a match against Istanbul Basaksehir at their Stadio Olimpico. The Romans are seen as one of the main candidates to win the Europa League trophy, but the campaign is quite long, meaning that the capital club need to take every single match seriously if they are to go all the way in the European competition.
The Giallorossi have turned their Stadio Olimpico into a real fortress and seeing that Edin Dzeko is still leading the line for the Serie A outfit, home win should be considered. Seeing that Istanbul chiefs have pumped up a lot of money into the squad over the last few transfer windows, it is no wonder Okan Buruk’s men play an important role in the Turkish Super Lig. Former Real Madrid attacker Robinho is the team’s biggest star and all eyes will be on him when the two teams face each other in the “Eternal City” on Thursday evening. However, beating Roma on the road is easier said than done, therefore, we predict that the visitors will return home empty-handed.
Highlighted Player (Alessandro Florenzi):
Alessandro Florenzi is probably the most impressive product of AS Roma youth academy since Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, and the full-back has already developed into an important player for both club and country.
Capable of operating as both right-back and right winger, the talented footballer is probably best remembered from scoring a marvellous goal from half-way line in the Champions League clash against Barcelona, but there is much more to him than an occasional wonder strike. While he usually played as a winger during his early career, Florenzi switched to attacking full-back at both Roma and Italy national team, and that proved a very good move for his career.
While helping the Gialorossi return to old glory days, the right-back left his mark on international stage as well, especially impressing since Antonio Conte took over the reigns in the national team. Despite the fact that he has yet to realise his full potential, Florenzi already boasts an impressive top flight experience and he is predicted a bright future in the game.
Highlighted Team (Basaksehir):
Istanbul Basaksehir are one of the youngest clubs in Turkey. Founded in 1990, Istanbul Basaksehir play their home games at Fatih Terim Stadium, the venue that was opened in 2014. The Turkish club club have yet to win the national championship, but they did well to finish the 2016/2017 Super Lig campaign in second place in the standings.
As a result, Istanbul Basaksehir booked their place in the Champions League qualifiers and thanks to a win over Club Brugge in the two-legged tie the capital club set up a meeting with La Liga side Sevilla in the play-offs. Despite producing fine performances in the double-header against the star-studded Spanish side Istanbul Basaksehir eventually failed to make it to the Champions League group stages.
Nonetheless, the club will represent Turkey in the group stages of the Europa League in the 2017/2018 season. It has to be noted that the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Eljero Elia, Emre Belozoglu and Gael Clichy played for Istanbul Basaksehir in the 2017/2018 Champions League qualifiers.
