Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Istanbul Basaksehir play host to Burnley at their Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu in what is expected to be a very entertaining clash. Abdulah Avci’s men have yet to play an official game in the 2018/2019 season, but given the quality of their squad, the hosts are definitely capable of making life difficult for the Clarets in Thursday’s football match. Experienced attacker Emanuel Adebayor is likely to lead the line for the hosts against Burnley and the opposition defenders should have him at bay. The Clarets eliminated Aberdeen after extra-time, with Chris Wood scoring a very important goal for the Premier League side in the return leg. The New Zealand attacker is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders, but scoring at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu is easier said than done. The two teams seem to be evenly matched at the moment and share of spoils appears on the horizon.
Highlighted Player (Arda Turan):
Arda Turan is one of the most famous footballers in the history of Turkish football and he is widely tipped to break Rusti Recber’s record of 120 caps for Milli Takim. The attacking midfielder came to prominence at Galatasaray, while also impressing as Turkey reached the Euro 2008 semi-finals, and he immediately received offers from top European clubs to cash in on his impressive showings. However, it would take another three years before he finally decided to accept the call from Atletico Madrid, thus becoming the most expensive Turkish footballer.
Turan played a key role for Diego Simeone’s side that impressed in both Spain and Europe from 2011 onwards, lifting the league trophy with los Colchoneros and narrowly missing out on the Champions League title.
Achieving a superstar status in his country, Turan always performed well for the Turkey national team, making more than 90 appearances for Milli Takim before the age of 30, and scoring more than 15 goals.
Highlighted Team (Burnley):
Burnley were one of the founding members of the Football League back in 1888. The Clarets did remarkably well to win the FA Cup trophy back in 1914 and the club owners have been trying to bring glory days back to Turf Moor ever since.
Burnley defeated Liverpool in the 1913/1914 FA Cup final and, no doubt, this is regarded as the greatest achievement in the club’s history. The Clarets finished the 2015/2016 Championship campaign in top position in the standings and, as a result, they will participate in the English Premier League in the 2016/2017 season.
Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor and the capacity of the stadium is 21,401. The Clarets have won two Community Shield trophies so far, in 1960 and 1973, but they have yet to clinch the Premier League title. Claret is the dominant colour of the team’s home shirts.
