Our match prediction:
By beating the likes of Zimbru, Nomme Kalju and Midtjylland in the Europa League qualifiers, Osmanlispor made it to the Europa League knockout stages. The Turkish side have been drawn alongside Steaua, Zurich and Villarreal in Group L and they are certainly on a very difficult quest. However, Osmanlispor are tough to beat at home and, no doubt, they are capable of making life difficult for Steaua in their opener. The Romanian side should be happy with one point from the match and that is one of the reasons why we predict the two teams are going to share the spoils at Osmanli Stadi. Steaua were hammered by Manchester City in the Champions League play-offs, but they were regarded as big underdogs in the two-legged tie against the star-studded Premier League side. In their last meeting with a Turkish side in the Europa League Steaua were beaten by Fenerbahce 3-1 in Istanbul.
Highlighted Team (Steaua Bucharest):
Over the years Steaua have established themselves as one of the most successful clubs in Romania. Founded on 7 June, 1947 the club won their first domestic trophy in 1951 and they have been the dominant force in the Romanian football ever since. In 2015 Steaua won their 26th national championship, but the club’s biggest success is winning of the 1985/1986 Champions League (European Cup) trophy. The Ros-Albastrii did well to beat Barcelona in the title game at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville. Three years later they made it to the final of the elite competition, but Milan proved to be a big catch for the Romanian champions in the Camp Nou showdown. Steaua suffered a 4-0 loss to Rossoneri in the 1989 European Cup final. A number of high-profile footballers played for Steaua in the past, but, no doubt, Gheorghe Hagi is the most famous player who wore the club’s shirt. The Ros-Albastrii play their home games at Arena Nationala, the stadium that was opened on 20 February, 2008.
