Our football match prediction:
David faces Goliath at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta. Real Sociedad crushed Vardar (6-0) in Skopje and they are seen as hot favourites on paper to win Thursday’s football game against the Macedonian champions. Vardar did remarkably well to shock star-studded Fenerbahce in the Europa League qualifiers, but the team do not seem to be competitive at this level and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Real Sociedad’s party at “Anoeta”. Thursday’s clash is of huge importance for the Basque outfit and we predict that Eusebio Sacristan’s men will prove their worth on the field. Willian Jose scored four goals in the 6-0 win over Vardar, meaning that the opposition defenders will have their work cut out for them when facing the Brazilian attacker. Taking everything into account, there is every chance La Real will record yet another routine win over Cedomir Janevski’s troops.
Highligted Player (Diego Reyes):
Diego Antonio Reyes is a young 23-year-old Mexico centre back who plays for Spanish club Real Sociedad on loan from Porto. The defender has often been described as intelligent in his positioning and strong in the air. He is considered to be a natural ball-playing defender who is comfortable in possession. Although he is primarily a defender, Reyes has played as a defensive midfielder too. He made his professional debut with Club America in 2010 starting as a midfielder but quickly moving into his more naturally suited central defender role. He was quickly snapped up by Porto in 2013 although his playing time at the Portuguese club was limited. Reyes has played for Mexico at various national youth team levels including the gold-medal winning under-23 squad at the 2012 London Olympics. He was called up to the senior team in 2011 and has already participated in Confederations Cup and FIFA World Cup.
Highlighted Team (Vardar):
Vardar are a Macedonian football club which surprisingly qualified for the group stages of the Europa League for the 2017/2018 season. The Crveno-Crni (The Red & Blacks) did well to upset star-studded Fenerbahce in the play-off round and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Vardar, on the other hand, are the dominant force in Macedonian First League and they won their 10th domestic trophy in 2017. The Crveno-Crni were part of the Yugoslav First League in the past and they won the league in 1987. Pelister are regarded as Vardar’s fiercest rivals and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two teams. Based in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, Vardar play their home games at Phillip II Arena and the capacity of the venue is 33.460. Vardar play their home games in black shirts with red strips and black shorts. The club’s away colours are white and red. Darko Pancev, who won the European Cup with Crvena Zvezda in 1991, is the most notable footballer who played for Vardar. The Macedonian attacker scored 84 goals in 151 appearances in the league for the Crveno-Crni.
