Our football match prediction:
Vardar were playing above expectations in the Champions League qualifiers, but they eventually failed to make it to the play-offs for the elite competition. The Macedonian side outplayed Swedish champions Malmo in the Champions League second qualifying round, but FC Copenhagen proved to be a big catch for Goce Sedloski’s troops. As a result, Vardar set up a meeting with Fenerbahce in the Europa League play-offs and it remains to be seen if they are capable of upsetting the Turkish team in the upcoming double-header. Aykut Kocaman’s charges eliminated Sturm Graz in the Europa League third qualifying round and they are widely expected to beat Vardar in the two-legged tie. The Macedonians are certainly low on confidence following the heavy 4-1 loss to Copenhagen and, taking everything into account, there is a certain value in betting on Fener. A man to watch in the away team will be former Monaco midfielder Nabil Dirar, who found the net in a 1-1 draw with Sturm Graz in Istanbul.
Highligted Player (Simon Kjaer):
Simon Kjaer began his senior career at FC Midtjylland and in 2008 he moved to Italy, signing a deal with Palermo. After ending his loan spell with Roma, the Danish defenders returns to Woflsburg and on 5 July, 2013 he moved to Lille. The 189-cm-tall footballer, who was born in Horsens, Denmark on 16 March, 1989, signed a four-year deal with Fenerbahce on 16 June, 2015 for a fee of €7.65 million. Simon Kjaer was named Danish U19 Player of the Year in 2007 and he has 10 caps for the Denmark U19 team. The Fenerbahce defender played for Denmark at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and he started the games against Netherlands and Cameroon in the group stages of the showpiece tournament.
Highlighted Team (Fenerbahce):
Fenerbahce are one of the biggest football clubs in Turkey. The Kanaryalar were founded on 3 May, 1907 as Fenerbahce Futbol Kulubu. Fener won their first domestic trophy in 1959 and they quickly established themselves as one of the main forces in Turkish football. In 2014 Fenerbahce clinched their 19th league title, with the team finishing the season nine points clear of Besiktas. Galatasaray are considered Fener’s bitterest rivals and the two teams face each other in Kitalar Arasi Derbi. The rivalry between the clubs started back in 1934, when a friendly between the two teams was abandoned due to riots. Besiktas are regarded as Fenerbahce’s big rivals as well. The likes of Mujdat Yetkiner, Zeki Riza Sporel, Aykut Kocaman, Emre Belozoglu, Alex, Nicolas Anelka, Diego Lugano, Roberto Carlos and Dirk Kuyt are famous footballers who played for the club in the past. The Kanaryalar play their home games at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, the venue that was opened in 1908. Fener’s home kits are navy blue and yellow.
