Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Wolfsberger could not have wished for a better start to their Europa League campaign, with the team rolling over Borussia M’gladbach 4-0 on the road, but they have not been impressive in Group J ever since. After playing out a 1-1 draw with Roma, the Austrian side suffered a 1-0 loss to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish capital in their last group game. Wolfsberger aim to regain their spot in the top two, and we are positive that they will adopt an attack-minded approach in Thursday’s football game.
However, given the number of high-profile players in the Turkish outfit, we do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts. A close match is on the horizon, and we predict that the two teams are going to share the spoils at Merkur Arena in Graz this time out.
Highlighted Player (Shon Weissman):
After spending his youth career Maccabi Haifa, Shon Weissman continued wearing the green and white shirt at senior level. The 174-tall forward scored 8 goals in 32 appearances in the league for the Greens before joining Wolfsberger in 2019.
It has to be noted, though, that he played for the likes of Hapoel Acre, Maccabi Netanya and Ironi Kiryat Shmona on loan as well from 2015 to 2018. Born in Haifa on February 14, 1996 the Israeli footballer has yet to make his senior debut with the Israel national team, but he has two caps with the U21 team. Speaking of his career at Wolfsberger, Shon Weissman made his Austrian Bundesliga debut on July 27, 2019 in a 3-0 win at Admira.
Weissman opened his goal-scoring account on the same day, finding the net twice in the BSFZ-Arena clash. His main position is centre-forward, but he is capable of playing as both second striker and right winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Basaksehir):
Istanbul Basaksehir are one of the youngest clubs in Turkey. Founded in 1990, Istanbul Basaksehir play their home games at Fatih Terim Stadium, the venue that was opened in 2014. The Turkish club club have yet to win the national championship, but they did well to finish the 2016/2017 Super Lig campaign in second place in the standings.
As a result, Istanbul Basaksehir booked their place in the Champions League qualifiers and thanks to a win over Club Brugge in the two-legged tie the capital club set up a meeting with La Liga side Sevilla in the play-offs. Despite producing fine performances in the double-header against the star-studded Spanish side Istanbul Basaksehir eventually failed to make it to the Champions League group stages.
Nonetheless, the club will represent Turkey in the group stages of the Europa League in the 2017/2018 season. It has to be noted that the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Eljero Elia, Emre Belozoglu and Gael Clichy played for Istanbul Basaksehir in the 2017/2018 Champions League qualifiers.
