Our prediction for this Europa League match:
Fenerbahce will be aiming to bounce back from a shocking 1-0 loss to Bursa when they square off against Zorya in the Europa League group stages. The Turkish team have big ambitions for the 2016/2017 Europa League campaign and they are likely to go for a win in Thursday’s football game at Stadion Chornomorets. Robin van Persie has overcome his injury and the former Manchester United and Arsenal striker is likely to lead the line for the visitors against Zorya. Yury Vernydub’s team participated in the Ukrainian Cup final last season and, as a result, they represent Ukraine in the Europa League group stages. Zorya face an uphill task in Thursday’s clash against Fenerbahce and we predict that the lack of confidence will prove to be the team’s biggest problem in the Stadion Chornomorets game. Taking everything into account, Fenerbahce should kick off their Europa League campaign with a win.
Highlighted Player (Robin van Persie):
After spending three seasons at Feyenoord, Robin van Persie joined Premier League side Arsenal in 2004. The 188-cm-tall forward, who was born on 6 August, 1983 was struggling with injuries during his spell with the capital club, but he impressed in the 2011/2012 Premier League campaign, scoring 30 goals for the Gunners in the national championship.
Against all odds, he betrayed Arsenal fans at the end of the season as he signed a deal with Manchester United for a fee of £22.5 million. The Dutch striker 26 goals in the 2012/2013 Premier League campaign with the Red Devils and he helped the English giants win the domestic title. However, he failed to impress in the 2014/2015 season and the club chiefs decided to sell him to Fenerbahce on 14 July, 2015.
He signed a three-year deal with the Turkish outfit for a fee of £3.84 million and has been playing for Fener ever since. In 2010 he participated in the FIFA World Cup final with Netherlands, but the Oranje were beaten by Spain in the title game.
Highlighted Team (Fenerbahce):
Fenerbahce are one of the biggest football clubs in Turkey. The Kanaryalar were founded on 3 May, 1907 as Fenerbahce Futbol Kulubu. Fener won their first domestic trophy in 1959 and they quickly established themselves as one of the main forces in Turkish football.
In 2014 Fenerbahce clinched their 19th league title, with the team finishing the season nine points clear of Besiktas. Galatasaray are considered Fener’s bitterest rivals and the two teams face each other in Kitalar Arasi Derbi. The rivalry between the clubs started back in 1934, when a friendly between the two teams was abandoned due to riots. Besiktas are regarded as Fenerbahce’s big rivals as well.
The likes of Mujdat Yetkiner, Zeki Riza Sporel, Aykut Kocaman, Emre Belozoglu, Alex, Nicolas Anelka, Diego Lugano, Roberto Carlos and Dirk Kuyt are famous footballers who played for the club in the past. The Kanaryalar play their home games at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, the venue that was opened in 1908. Fener’s home kits are navy blue and yellow.
