Our prediction for this FA Cup match:
After defeating Stevenage in midweek, Colchester United will be looking to extend their winning run at home to four games when they take on Marine in the FA Cup round 1. The U’s have been climbing the League Two standings week by week, and given their impressive home record, it is no surprise bookies see them as hot favourites to win their FA Cup opener.
Marine, on the other hand, defeated the likes of Frickley, Runcorn Linnets, Nantwich, and Chester in the preliminary rounds, but Colchester are likely to pose a much bigger threat for the non-league side than their previous rivals. David faces Goliath at Colchester Community Stadium, and anything but a routine home win would be a major surprise. The two teams have never met before in the FA Cup. A man to watch in the home team will be Jamaica international Jevani Brown.
Highlighted Player (Ben Stevenson):
Ben Stevenson is a product of a Coventry City football academy who plays for Colchester United as a midfielder. Born in Leicester on March 23, 1997, Stevenson started his senior career at Coventry City and made his debut with the Sky Blues on August 9, 2016, in the League Cup game against Portsmouth.
The English footballer moved to Wolverhampton in the 2018/2019 season, but he did not see any game action in the league with the Wolves. After ending his loan spells with Colchester United and Jumilla, Ben Stevenson signed a permanent two-and-a-half year contract with the U’s on January 30, 2019. He made his second debut for Colchester United against Northampton Town on February 2, 2019.
His primary position is central midfield, but he is capable of producing good performances as a defensive midfielder as well. His preferred foot is right, and he wears the number 24 shirt at Colchester.
Highlighted Team (Colchester):
Founded in 1937, Colchester United are a professional football club that compete in the League Two, the English fourth tier. The U’s welcome their rivals at Colchester Community Stadium, the venue which has the capacity of 10,105 people.
Colchester United are well known for their blue kit, but white is the dominant colour of their away kit. The U’s have an official fans association known as the CUSA. Colchester supporters consider Wycombe Wanderers the club’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalries with Southend United and Ipswich Town are big as well. Colchester United did well to win the FA Trophy in the 1991/92 season, with the team clinching the Essex Senior Cup trophy in the 2009/10 season.
In December 1961 the U’s recorded their biggest win, with the team rolling over Bradford City 9-1 in the Fourth Division. Colchester United repeated the success 44 years later as they hammered Leamington 9-1 in the FA Cup round 1.
