Our football match prediction:
France did well to make it to the Euro 2016 final, but they eventually failed to win the title at the showpiece tournament in their homeland. Les Tricolores have big ambitions for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and they are sitting in top position in their qualifying group at the moment. Didier Deschamps is still in charge of the team and his men will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Spain (friendly) when they welcome Paraguay at Roazhon Park in Rennes. The likes of Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann and Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe all made the squad to face Paraguay and we predict that the hosts will emerge triumphant in Friday’s football game. The South American team are not regarded as good travelers and, taking everything into account, they are likely to return home empty-handed. It has to be noted that the Paraguayans have yet to defeat France in an official match.
Highligted Player (Payet):
Dimitri Payet was born in Saint-Pierre, Reunion on 29 March 1987, but he joined Le Havre’s famous youth academy in 1999 and has since enjoyed a meteoric rise. The attacking midfielder started his professional career at Nantes, but top French clubs soon started casting admiring glances his way and he went on to represent Saint Etienne, Lille and Marseille, becoming one of Ligue 1’s leading footballers. However, it was the move to West Ham that placed Payet on the map as the Frenchman enjoyed a brilliant start to his career in England, making the PFA Player of the Year Shortlist. Some excellent performances in the Premier League persuaded France coach Didier Deschamps to reinstate Payet into his starting line-up and the midfielder paid the coach back with some scintillating displays on international stage. Excellent with the ball at his feet and very dangerous from set pieces, Payet quickly established himself as one of Europe’s top midfielders, with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and other top clubs now after his signature.
Highlighted Team (Paraguay):
Los Guaranies are the part of CONMEBOL confederation vying for glory at the international scene since 1919 and their debut loss to Argentina 5-1. Paraguay are regular participants at the Copa America winning the tournament on two occasions thus far, most recently in 1979. They came close to glory in recent editions of the tournament as they fell short in the final of 2011 to Uruguay, while they finished fourth in 2015. The most successful period of the Paraguay national team came under Argentine coach Gerardo Martino, who took Paraguay to the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup for the first time in history. Following the 2010 success, Paraguay failed to qualify for their fourth successive FIFA World Cup finals as they have also missed out on the third consecutive global championship held inside their own continent. Toluca FC centre back Paulo da Silva is the most capped player of the Paraguay national team, while former Bayern Munich and Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz is the team’s top scorer with 32 goals to his name.
