Our prediction for this KNVB Cup match:
A place in the Dutch Cup last 16 will be at stake when Excelsior and Zwolle face each other at Vab Donge & De Roo Stadion on Tuesday evening. Excelsior kicked off their KNVB Beker campaign in a 4-0 win over Helmond, but they have been struggling in the Eerste Divisie of late. The Kralingers are on a three-game losing run in the Dutch second tier, and it is no wonder they are seen as underdogs in Tuesday’s clash.
Zwolle suffered a 4-0 loss to Ajax in their last league fixture, but there were some positivities in their display in the second half of the match. The Eredivisie outfit aim to save the season by recording a good result in the KNVB Beker, and they should take advantage of Excelsior’s current form. In their last meeting in a competitive match Zwolle defeated Excelsior 2-0.
Highlighted Player (Anco Jansen):
Born in Zwolle, Netherlands on March 9, 1989, Anco Jansen is a pacey winger who started his senior career in his home-town club FC Zwolle. After scoring two goals in 40 league appearances for the club, he joined Groningen in 2008, but he did not see any game action with the Green and White Army in the Eredivisie.
Anco Jansen played for the likes of Cambuur, SC Veendam, De Graafschap, Roda JC, and Boluspor as well before joining FC Emmen in 2017. Anco Jansen made his Eredivisie debut with FC Emmen in a 2-1 win over ADO Den Haag on August 12, 2018, with the winger finding the net after 42 minutes.
His main position is left winger, but he is used as both centre-forward and attacking midfielder as well. His preferred foot is right. Anco Jansen has yet to earn a call-up with the Netherlands national football team.
Highlighted Team (Groningen):
Groningen is a Dutch football clubs that competes in the Eredivisie. Founded on June 16, 1971, Groningen play home games at Euroborg. The venue was built by Ballas Nedam, Royal BAM Group and VolkerWessels, and it can hold up to 22,525 people.
The Trots van het Noorden (Pride of the North) are well known for their white home shirts with red stripes, while purple is the dominant colour of their away kit. Volendam are considered the club’s fiercest rivals, but they have a rivalry with Twente as well after the 1980s incidents between their fans. Groningen have yet to win the Eredivisie trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the Dutch Cup in the 2014/15 season.
The green and whites defeated Zwolle 2-0 in the title game. Speaking of their European success, it has to be noted that Groningen participated in the Europa League on two occasions. In the 2015/16 season the Trots van het Noorden booked their place in the group stages of the competition, but they failed to record a win in the process.
