Our football match prediction:
After playing out a goalless draw with Frosinone in Sunday’s Serie A game, Lazio will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on Galatasaray at their Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night. The Biancocelesti managed to score an away goal in the first leg (1-1), but they cannot afford any complacency in the return leg. It is well known that Stefano Pioli’s men are tough to beat at home and given that Mustafa Denizli’s charges often struggle on the road in European competitions, we predict that the Serie A side will make it to the Europa League last 16. When the two sides met at Stadio Olimpico in the 2001/2002 Champions League campaign Lazio recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Galatasaray, with Serbian midfielder Dejan Stankovic scoring a wonder goal for the capital club back then.
Highlighted Player (Sneijder):
Wesley Sneijder is a Dutch footballer who started his senior career at Ajax. The product of Ajax’s youth academy made 126 league appearances for the Amsterdam Arena outfit and in 2007 he joined Real Madrid. After failing to impress with los Blancos, Sneijder signed a deal with Serie A side Inter on 27 August, 2009. He made his Inter debut a day after he signed a deal with the Nerazzurri. The Dutch midfielder, who has netted a number of goals from free kicks, won the 2009/2010 Serie A trophy with Inter and in 2010 he clinched the Champions League trophy with the Nerazzurri. After spending four years at Inter, he joined Galatasaray in 2013 and it has to be noted that he won his second Super Lig trophy with the Turkish outfit in the 2014/2015 season. Speaking of his international career, Sneijder participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final with Netherlands, but Spain proved to be a big catch for the Oranje in the title game.
Highlighted Team (Lazio Roma):
Lazio are an Italian football club based in Rome. Lazio were founded in 1900 and they compete in the Serie A. The Biancocelesti (The White and Sky Blues) have won two Serie A trophies (1973/1974, 1999/2000), while lifting six Coppa Italia titles. The capital club play their home games at Stadio Olimpico and Roma are regarded as Lazio’s main rivals. The two teams face each other in the Derby della Capitale and it is considered the fiercest inter-city derby in Italy. Lazio won UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999, with the team beating Mallorca in the title game. The same year they managed to clinch the UEFA Super Cup trophy as they outplayed English giants Manchester United at Stade Louis II, Monaco. The likes of Pavel Nedved, Giuseppe Favalli, Juan Sebastian Veron, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Roberto Mancini, Giuseppe Signori, Miroslav Klose and Simone Inzaghi are notable footballers who played for Lazio in the past.
