Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
There will be fireworks when Lyon and Saint-Etienne face each other in the Rhone-Alpes derby on Sunday evening. Les Gones have been in a fine form of late, and they head into the local derby following a 1-1 draw with Lille. Lyon aim to stay in the race for the title, but keep in mind that important defender Marcelo misses the game through suspension. Melvin Bard, on the other hand, returns to contention after serving his ban in the 1-1 draw with Lille.
Les Verts failed to impress in a 1-0 loss to Montpellier at the weekend, with the team extending their losing run in Ligue 1 to five games. The visitors are low on confidence ahead of the Rhone-Alpes derby, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Lyon’s party at Parc Olympique Lyonnais. The likes of Trauco, Nordin, Macon, and Debuchy are injured for the visitors, while Harold Moukoudi has been tested positive for coronavirus.
Highlighted Player (Memphis Depay):
Memphis Depay is a Dutch winger who started his professional career at PSV Eindhoven. During the 2014/2015 Eredivisie campaign the pacey footballer was on Manchester United’s radar and on June 12, 2015 the Premier League club confirmed the signing of the Dutchman. Many people expected that he would impress in the 2015/2016 Premier League season, but the former PSV ace played below expectations for the Red Devils, scoring only two goals (one assist) during the season.
After playing only for league games for Man Utd in the 2016/2017 season, Memphis Depay was sold to Olympique Lyon on January 20, 2017. Depay signed a four-and-a-half year deal with les Gones for a fee of around £16 million. The Dutch winger was producing fine performances for Lyon in the 2016/2017 season; he scored five goals for the club, while providing eight assists for his teammates.
Memphis Depay made his senior debut for Netherlands on October 15, 2013 in a 2-0 win over Turkey. Depay did well to win the 2011 European Championship with Netherlands U17 team.
Highlighted Team (St Etienne):
Saint Etienne are a professional football club that compete in French Ligue 1. Les Verts were founded in 1919 by employees of a grocery store chain based in Saint Etienne. Saint Etienne wear green shirts and white shorts when playing at home ground and they play their home matches at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
The stadium was opener on 13 September, 1931 and following the renovation the capacity of the venue increased to 42 000. In 1981 les Verts won their tenth Ligue 1 trophy, but they have been in the shadow of Ligue 1 giants Lyon and PSG in the 21st century.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Saint Etienne made it to the European Cup (Champions League) final in 1976, but Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich proved to be a big catch for the French outfit. Anyhow, that is regarded as the club’s biggest success. It has to be noted that the likes of Michel Platini, Jacques Santini, Laurent Blanc and Aime Jacquet all played for Saint Etienne in the past.
