Our football match prediction:
Olympique Lyon were determined to put an end to PSG’s dominance in French football last season, but Monaco eventually won the Ligue 1 trophy. Les Gones finished the season in fourth position in the standings and, as a result, they will represent France in the Europa League. Bruno Genesio’s men have big ambitions for the upcoming season, but it has to be noted that key attacker Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal earlier this summer. In Lacazette’s absence Memphis Depay will be the man to watch in Bruno Genesio’s team and we predict that he is going to prove a handful for Strasbourg defenders in Saturday’s football match. The newcomers are likely to leave their hearts on the field in the opening match of the season, but seeing that they often struggle on the travels, we do not believe that Thierry Laurey’s charges are capable of shocking les Gones at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
Highlighted Player (Memphis Depay):
Memphis Depay is a Dutch winger who started his professional career at PSV Eindhoven. During the 2014/2015 Eredivisie campaign the pacey footballer was on Manchester United’s radar and on June 12, 2015 the Premier League club confirmed the signing of the Dutchman. Many people expected that he would impress in the 2015/2016 Premier League season, but the former PSV ace played below expectations for the Red Devils, scoring only two goals (one assist) during the season. After playing only for league games for Man Utd in the 2016/2017 season, Memphis Depay was sold to Olympique Lyon on January 20, 2017. Depay signed a four-and-a-half year deal with les Gones for a fee of around £16 million. The Dutch winger was producing fine performances for Lyon in the 2016/2017 season; he scored five goals for the club, while providing eight assists for his teammates. Memphis Depay made his senior debut for Netherlands on October 15, 2013 in a 2-0 win over Turkey. Depay did well to win the 2011 European Championship with Netherlands U17 team.
Highlighted Team (Strasbourg):
Founded back in 1906, Strasbourg are a professional football team that compete in French Ligue 1. Le Racing did remarkably well to win the 1979 Ligue 1 trophy and that is considered the biggest success in the history of the club. Strasbourg won Coupe de France on three occasions (1951, 1966, 2001) and they have three Coupe de la Ligue trophies as well (1964, 1997, 2005). Strasbourg’s main rivals are Metz and the two teams face each other in the Derby de l’Est (The Eastern derby). Le Racing recorded their biggest victory over Valenciennes (10-0) in the 1937-1938 season, whilst they suffered their biggest loss to Limoges (0-8) in the 1959/1960 season. Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert, who is well known for his free-kick abilities, played for the club from 2000 to 2003, but he failed to score in a league match during his spell with the Stade de la Meinau outfit. Speaking of Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg’s home ground was opened back in 1914 and the capacity of the venue is 29,320.
