Our football match prediction:
Stade Geoffroy-Guichard will host Saturday’s football game between Saint-Etienne and Nice, who face each other on the opening day of the season. Saint-Etienne finished the 2016/2017 season in eighth place in the standings and, no doubt, they are eager to regain their spot in European competitions. Les Verts are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but beating les Aiglons, who represent France in the Champions League qualifiers this term, is easier said than done. Nice impressed in the French top flight last term and given the quality of Lucien Favre’s team, we predict that they will play an important role in the 2017/2018 Ligue 1 campaign as well. Mario Balotelli is still part of the team and the controversial attacker will be the man to watch in the away team. Nice are not regarded as good travelers and, taking everything into account, share of spoils appears on the cards.
Highligted Player (Oussama Tannane):
Oussama Tannane is a Morocco footballer who plays for Saint Etienne as a winger. Tannane played for Heerenveen in the 2012/2013 Eredivisie campaign and at the end of the season he moved to Heracles. The pacey winger scored 16 goals in 53 appearances for Heracles from 2013 to 2016 and he joined Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne in January, 2016. Tannane impressed on his Saint Etienne debut, scoring and providing two assists for his teammates in a 4-1 triumph over Bordeaux. Despite playing for Netherlands U21 team in the past, he represents Morocco on the international stage nowadays. Tannane made his debut for the Morocco national team on 26 March, 2016 in a 1-0 victory over Cape Verde. The Saint Etienne footballer played for the likes of Zeeburgia, Ajax, Utrecht, PSV and Utrecht during his youth career.
Highlighted Team (OGC Nice):
Nice are a football club that participate in French Ligue 1. Les Aiglons welcome their opponents at Allianz Riviera and the club was founded on 9 July, 1904 by Marquis Massengy d’ Auzac. Nice won their first Ligue 1 trophy back in 1951 and eight years later they clinched their fourth and last domestic title. Speaking of the French Cup, les Aiglons won their third Coupe de France title in 1997. Allianz Riviera has been the home ground of the club since September, 2013 and it has to be noted that the construction of the venue cost €250 million. Nice play their home games in red and black shirts and black shorts, while the colour of their away kits is white. The Ligue 1 team booked their place in the Europa League group stages for the 2016/2017 season for the first time in the club’s history and they were drawn alongside Schalke 04, Salzburg and Krasnodar in Group I. However, they were beaten by Schalke in their Europa League opener in front of home fans.
