Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
The Stade Geoffroy-Guichard is the venue for the match between the fifth placed St Etienne and the 11th placed Rennes. St Etienne are only four points away from 2nd place so it’s all to play for. Before losing 3:1 to Lille in their last match, they had three wins in a row before that. In their last ten matches they only suffered two defeats; they won five times and had drawn three times. In fact, their two defeats came from the two top placed teams in the league, PSG and Lille. Rennes have had a really good season last year, finishing fifth and qualifying for the Europa League which is probably one of the reasons they are struggling a bit this year having to juggle more games. They won their last match in Ligue 1, but before that they were winless for four games. During that time, the won one and lost one game in the Europa League. St Etienne will probably be too strong for them at home in this game.

Highlighted Player (Yann M Vila):

Formerly a blistering talent and one of the most promising youngsters in French football, Yann M’Vila ended up being a class book example of a player who made all the wrong choices. Having started his career at the age of six with ES Sains-Saint-Fussein, M’Villa was quick to turn heads of the big boys. He was given a chance to move through youth ranks at Rennes where he was given a professional debut in 2009 but it was not long after that his problematic lifestyle came back to haunt him.
Yann M’Villa got suspended from all national teams after an unauthorized night out while on U21 duty with France, a ban which left mark on his club career as well. Despite interest from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham, M’Villa was sold to Rubin kazan in January 2013 which was the time his nomadic experience as a footballer began.
Spells as Inter Milan and Sunderland failed to help him get back to prominence and meet the early expectations, however. Currently a St Etienne player, M’Villa is hoping to re-establish himself back in his homeland.
Highlighted Team (Stade Rennes):

Stade Rennais Football Club or simply Rennes is a French football club which was founded on March 10, 1901. The club is one of the founding members of the French Ligue 1 and they are nicknamed Les Rouges et Noirs. Roazhon Park is the club’s home ground and the venue can hold 29.778 people. Rennes have yet to win the Ligue 1 trophy, but they won Coupe de France title on two occasions (1964/1965, 1970/1971). Speaking of Coupe de la Ligue, les Rouges et Noirs made it to the final of the competition in the 2012/2013 season, but they were beaten by Saint Etienne (1-0) in the title game at Stade de France.
A number of top-class footballers played for Stade Rennais Football Club in the past and the likes of Sylvain Wiltord, Yoann Gourcuff, Yann M’Vila, Moussa Sow and Jimmy Briand are considered the club’s most notable players. Rennes footballers wear black and red jerseys when playing at home, while they wear white when playing on the travels.
