Our prediction for this MLS match:
Los Angeles Galaxy kick off their MLS campaign with a game against Portland Timbers at their Stubhub Center. Los Angeles failed to impress in the Major League Soccer last term, with the team finishing regular part of the season in the ultimate position in the Western Conference. The Galaxy aim to make amends for the unsuccessful campaign and they are likely to fight tooth and nail against Portland Timbers. The club chiefs did well to reinforce the squad in the winter transfer window, but it remains to be seen if coach Caleb Porter is going to make a homogenous team. The two teams seem to be evenly matched ahead of the opening game of the season and we predict that they are going to play out a draw at Stubhub Center. In their last meeting in MLS Portland recorded a 3-1 win over LA Galaxy, but share of spoils is on the horizon this time out.
Highlighted Player (Ashley Cole):
After ending his spell with Arsenal Ashley Cole joined fellow capital club Chelsea in 2006. Arsenal fans were angry with the England full back, who “betrayed” the Gunners and signed a contract with their fierce local rivals. Ashley Cole, though, was hungry for trophies and in 2011/2012 he won the Champions League title with the Blues. He won the 2009/2010 Premier League trophy with the Stamford Bridge outfit as well and he played for Chelsea in a 2-1 win over Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final. Ashley Cole was part of Roma from 2014 to 2016 and in the 2016 January transfer window he signed a deal with MLS club LA Galaxy. The left-footed defender made 29 appearances for Galaxy last season, scoring only one goal in the process. The experience footballer, who was born on December 20, 1980 in London, made his England debut against Albania in March, 2001. Speaking of his individual awards, Ashley Cole was named England Player of the Year in 2010.
Highlighted Team (Portland Timbers):
Founded in 2009, Portland Timbers are a soccer club based in Portland, Oregon. The Timbers are well known for their green kit and their secondary colours are red and black. Portland welcome their opponents at Providence Park and the capacity of their home ground is 21.144. The club hold a long-running rivalry with Seattle Sounders as the two clubs used to face each other in the North American Soccer League. In 2015 Portland Timbers did remarkably well to win the MLS Cup and that is considered the club’s biggest success. The Timbers defeated Columbus Crew in the final of the tournament and it has to be noted that the title game was hosted by Mapfre Stadium (Columbus). Former Premier League footballer Liam Ridgewell played for Portland in the 2015 MLS Cup final against Columbus Crew. Speaking of the club’s supporters, you should have in mind that the Timbers sold out almost every home game in the MLS. Portland’s main supporters group is the Timbers Army.
