Our football match prediction:
Minnesota United will be aiming to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to New York City when they welcome Columbus Crew at their TCF Bank Stadium in midweek. The Loons occupy tenth position in the standings ahead of Wednesday’s football game, but a win over Columbus could see them get level on points with seventh-placed Vancouver Whitecaps. The newcomers are tough to beat at home and you should know that they are eyeing their seventh home win of the season. The Crew, on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 loss to Atlanta United at the weekend and, no doubt, they are eager to get back on course. However, the team’s form is anything but promising and that is the main reason we predict that visitors will return home empty-handed from Wednesday’s clash. It has to be noted that the two teams meet for the first time ever in the Major League Soccer. San Jose footballers Marco Urena (Costa Rica) and Darwin Ceren (El Salvador) are both on international duty with their respective national teams.
Highligted Player (Johan Venegas):
Johan Venegas is a winger who plays for both Minnesota United and Costa Rica national football team. After ending his spell with Santos, he joined fellow Primera Division side Puntarenas and in 2013 he signed a contract with Alajuelense. During his last season at the club he was on Montreal Impact’s radar and in December, 2016 he moved to MLS, joining Minnesota United. Speaking of his international career Johan Venegas made his Costa Rica debut in September, 2015 in a Copa Centroamericana game against Nicaragua. He marked his debut with a goal, scoring Costa Rica’s 100th goal in the history of the tournament. Johan Venegas, who is capable of playing as a left midfielder and a secondary striker as well, has a contract with Minnesota which expires on a Decembar, 31 2017.
Highlighted Team (Columbus Crew):
Columbus Crew are an American soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The Black & Gold participate in the Eastern Conference and in 2008 they won both the conference and the MLS CUP final. Columbus Crew defeated New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup final, with the likes of Moreno, Marshall and Hejduk scoring for the Black & Gold in the title game. The club welcome their rivals at Mapfre Stadium, the venue which was opened on May, 15 1999. The current capacity of the stadium is 19.968 and it has to be noted that Mapfre Stadium is the first soccer-specific venue ever built for a MLS club. A number of high-profile players were part of Columbus Crew in the past, but Guillermo Barros Schelotto is the most famous footballer that wore the black and yellow shirt. Schelotto played for Columbus Crew from 2007 to 2010 and during his spell with the Mapfre Stadium outfit the Black & Gold won the aforementioned MLS Cup.
