Our prediction for this MLS match:
Yankee Stadium will host Sunday's football match between New York City and Los Angeles Galaxy. Patrick Vieira's men are eager to emerge triumphant in their first home game of the season and they are likely to go all guns blazing at LA Galaxy. David Villa is still part of the team and all eyes will be on the former Barcelona ace when the two teams face each other in the Major League Soccer this weekend. Siegfried Schmid's men failed to impress in the 2017 MLS campaign and they are certainly eager to make amends for the unsuccessful season. LA Galaxy are likely to adopt a defence-minded approach in the Yankee Stadium clash, but seeing that they were struggling at the back in pre-season, we predict that the visitors are going to return home empty-handed. It has to be noted that New York City defeated Los Angeles Galaxy in previous two meetings between the two teams in MLS.
Highlighted Player (David Villa):
Over the years David Villa has established himself as one of the best attackers in the world. The Spanish superstar was producing excellent performances with Valencia from 2005 to 2010 and on May 19, 2010 Barcelona chiefs brought him to Camp Nou. “El Guaje” signed a four-year deal with Barca for a fee of €40 million and it is well known that he won a number of trophies with the Catalan giants. Villa clinched two La Liga titles with Barca (2011/2012, 2012/2013) and in 2011 he scored for Pep Guardiola’s team in a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League final. After spending one season at Atletico Madrid, the Spain international joined New York City in June, 2014 and he has been playing for Patrick Vieira’s team ever since. Nonetheless, it has to be noted that he made four league appearances for Melbourne City during his loan spell with the Australian club. Villa’s international career was successful as well as he won both FIFA World Cup (2010) and UEFA European Championship (2008) with La Furia Roja.
Highlighted Team (Los Angeles Galaxy):
Los Angeles Galaxy are probably the most famous American soccer club. The club have been participating in the MLS since 1996 and San Jose Earthquakes are considered their bitterest rivals. A number of top-class players were part of the team in the past, but, no doubt, David Beckham is the club’s most significant star. The former Manchester United star played for LA Galaxy from 2007 to 2012 and he scored 18 goals in 98 appearances in the league for the club. Fellow England international Steven Gerrard is yet another Premier League ace who joined LA Galaxy. Stevie G signed a $9 million deal with the club in June, 2015. One year before he arrived to Los Angeles, the Galaxy won their fifth MLS Cup, with the team beating New England Revolution (2-1) in the final of the tournament, but winning of the CONCACAF Champions League in 2000 is considered the club’s biggest success. The MLS outfit outplayed Olimpia of Hunduras in the title game, with Ezra Hendrickson scoring the winning goal ten minutes before the final whistle. Los Angeles Galaxy play their home games at StubHub Center, the stadium that was opened on June 1, 2003. The capacity of the venue is 27.000.
