Our football match prediction:
Eastern Conference giants will be hoping to make it four out of four as they prepare to lock horns with Western Conference strugglers Minnesota United. Boyed by the 2-0 victory in the local derby against fellow heavyweights New York Red Bulls, Patrick Vieira’s men head into the game against Minnesota United looking to extend their winning run. NYCFC are sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference after 17 rounds and are keen to catch up with Chicago Fire and Toronto FC who are only four and five points in front, respectively. The FC will hope former Barcelona striker David Villa will be able to help the team reach that goal with his fine form of late. The Spanish striker scored 10 goals and managed 3 assists. Minnesota are sitting in ninth place in the standings with only 18 points from 17 games. The team did show some signs of improvement over the past couple of rounds, but lacked composure to build on the 3-2 win over Portland in the previous match. Minnesota United were forced to work hard to come from behind for a 2-2 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps and they are now facing a tough challenge against a more quality and more experienced side.
Highlighted Player (David Villa):
Over the years David Villa has established himself as one of the best attackers in the world. The Spanish superstar was producing excellent performances with Valencia from 2005 to 2010 and on May 19, 2010 Barcelona chiefs brought him to Camp Nou. “El Guaje” signed a four-year deal with Barca for a fee of €40 million and it is well known that he won a number of trophies with the Catalan giants. Villa clinched two La Liga titles with Barca (2011/2012, 2012/2013) and in 2011 he scored for Pep Guardiola’s team in a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League final. After spending one season at Atletico Madrid, the Spain international joined New York City in June, 2014 and he has been playing for Patrick Vieira’s team ever since. Nonetheless, it has to be noted that he made four league appearances for Melbourne City during his loan spell with the Australian club. Villa’s international career was successful as well as he won both FIFA World Cup (2010) and UEFA European Championship (2008) with La Furia Roja.
Highlighted Team (Minnesota United):
Based in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, Minnesota United are a professional soccer club that will compete in the Western Conference in the Major League Soccer from 2017. The Loons will make their MLS debut against Portland Timbers on March 4, 2017 and, no doubt, they have big ambitions for the forthcoming season. Minnesota United are the sixth team to join MLS from a lower division and they will welcome their rivals at TCF Bank Stadium. The capacity of the stadium is 52.525 and it was opened in September, 2009. Bill McGuire is the club’s owner and he is on a quest to turn Minnesota United into a top-table side in the Western Conference. Adrian Heath will be in charge of the club in the 2017 season and it has to be noted that the English tactician used to train the likes of Manchester City, Everton, Aston Villa and Espanyol in the past. You should know that the club was founded on March 25, 2015.
