Our football match prediction:
Seattle Sounders are on a quest to defend their MLS Cup trophy. The title holders, though, suffered a 2-1 loss to Houston Dynamo in the opening match of the season, but they proved their worth in a 2-2 draw with Montreal Impact at the weekend. The reigning champions came from behind to share the spoils with the Canadian outfit and it has to be noted that they scored two late goals in the Stade Olympique showdown. Seattle Sounders aim to record their first win of the season and we predict that experienced attacker Clint Dempsey and his teammates are going to emerge triumphant in Sunday’s football match against New York Red Bulls. Jesse March’s men defeated the likes of Atlanta United and Colorado Rapids in the first two games of the season, but beating the defending champions on the road is easier said than done.
Highlighted Player (Clint Dempsey):
Clint Dempsey is regarded as one of the most significant MLS stars. The USA veteran was born on March 9, 1983 and he gain popularity during his spell with Fulham. Dempsey scored 50 goals in 184 league appearances for the Cottagers and, as a result, Tottenham Hotspur owners decided to bring him to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2012. The USA international, though, was struggling to find his best form in the 2012/2013 Premier League campaign and he netted only seven goals in 29 league fixtures. From 2004 to 2006 Dempsey played for New England Revolution and in 2013 he returned to MLS, signing a four-year contract with Seattle Sounders for a fee of $9 million. He made his Seattle debut on August 20, 2013, coming as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Toronto. In 2016 Clint Dempsey helped the Sounders clinch the MLS Cup trophy and, speaking of his international titles, it has to be noted that he won the CONCACAF Gold Cup with USA on two occasions (2005, 2007).
Highlighted Team (New York Red Bulls):
New York Red Bulls are the first club from New York City to join Major League Soccer. In 2006 the club was sold to Red Bull GmbH and, as a result, they are nicknamed the Red Bulls. New York welcome their rivals at Red Bull Arena and the team’s home colours are white and red. On the other hand, the Red Bulls wear dark blue shirts and yellow shorts on the road. In 2008 New York Red Bulls made it to the MLS Cup final, but they were not capable of matching Columbus Crew (1-3) in the Home Depot Center clash. A number of top-class footballers were part of the team in the past, but former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry is the synonym of the club. Henry scored 51 goals in 122 league games for New York Red Bulls from 2010 to 2014 and it has to be noted that he scored his first MLS hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Montreal Impact on March 31, 2012. The likes of Youri Djorkaeff, Lothar Matthaus, Roberto Donadoni, Rafael Marquez, Juninho and Tim Cahill played for the club in the past as well.
