Our football match prediction:
Vancouver Whitecaps kick off their MLS campaign with a match against Philadelphia Union. A close encounter appears on the cards and it remains to be seen who will get off to a flying start to the season. The Canadian side are on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions and they are definitely capable of grabbing something from Monday’s football match. Fredy Montero is likely to start the match and the opposition defenders should have him at bay. Philadelphia Union aim to bounce back from a loss to DC United in their last warm-up game and, no doubt, they should be happy with one point from the opening match of the season. The two teams seem to be evenly matched at the moment and we predict that they will share the spoils in the BC Place Stadium. You should bear in mind that Philadelphia are after their first victor over Vancouver since 2013.
Highlighted Player (Kendall Watson):
Kendall Waston is yet another Costa Rican footballer who plays in MLS. The Vancouver Whitecaps centre back started his senior career at Sarprissa of Costa Rica and he played for the likes of Carmelita, Nacional, Bayamon, UCR and Perez Zeledon (on loan) in the past as well. Waston moved to MLS in the summer of 2014, signing a deal with Vancouver Whitecaps. The Costa Rica international scored only two goals in 11 appearances for the club in the 2014 season, but the club chiefs decided to keep hold of him. He found the net twice in 30 league games in the 2015 MLS campaign, while scoring three goals in his last season with the Canadian club. Kendall Waston was born in San Jose, Costa Rica on January 1, 1988 and he made his debut for the Costa Rica national team in May, 2013 in a match against Canada. The Vancouver Whitecaps forward scored his first goal for los Ticos on December 16, 2015 in a 1-0 victory over Nicaragua.
Highlighted Team (Philadelphia Union):
Based in Chester, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Union are an American soccer club that compete in Major League Soccer. The U have been participating in MLS since 2010, but they have yet to win the domestic trophy. Philadelphia welcome their opponents at Talen Energy Stadium, the venue that was opened on June 27, 2010 and current capacity of the stadium is 18.500. The U made it to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final on two occasions (2014, 2015), but they were beaten by Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City respectively in the title games. The likes of D.C. United and New York Red Bulls are regarded as the club’s fiercest rivals, but they share a rivalry with Seattle Sounders as well. Philadelphia’s colours are navy blue and gold, but they wear white shirts and white socks when playing on the road. USA international Freddy Adu is one of the most notable footballers who player for the U in the past. The former Benfica man scored seven goals in 37 appearances for Philadelphia Union in MLS.
