Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
AZ Alkmaar and VVV Venlo face each other in a David-vs-Goliath clash at AFAS Stadion. Arne Slot’s troops have been playing some exciting games of late. Following a 3-3 draw with Fortuna Sittard, AZ played out an unbelievable 4-4 draw with Sparta Rotterdam before the international break, and, no doubt, they are going to stick to their attacking style of play.
Despite dropping a four-goal advantage in their last league match, Arne Slot’s men are seen as hot favourites to beat Venlo at home. The bad news for the hosts is that goalkeeper Marco Bizot will have to serve his ban in Saturday’s football match. The Pride of the South, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 2-1 home defeat to Den Haag, and they are unlikely to spoil AZ’s party at AFAS Stadion.
Highlighted Player (Jordy Clasie):
Jordy Clasie is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy who plays for AZ Alkmaar as a midfielder. His main position is defensive midfield, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both central midfielder and centre-back as well.
Clasie played for the likes of Feyenoord, Excelsior (loan), Southampton, and Club Brugge (loan) before returning to Rotterdam. After ending his second spell with Feyenoord, the Dutch footballer joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2019. He made his AZ debut in the Eredivisie on August 4, 2019 in a 4-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.
Jordie Clasie has 12 caps with the Netherlands U21 team, and he made his senior debut in a 1-1 draw with Italy on February 6, 2013. Thanks to his elegant style of play, Clasie has earned the nickname of “Dutch Xavi”. The AZ Alkmaar midfielder was born in Haarlem, Netherlands on June 27, 1991.
Highlighted Team (Venlo):
Based on the Dutch-German border, VVV-Venlo is a Dutch football club that plays in the Eredivisie. The club was founded on February 7, 1903 under the name of Venlose Voetbal Vereniging, and it’s considered one of the oldest clubs in Dutch football.
VVV Venlo are well known for their yellow shirts and black shorts, and, as a result, they are often called the Yellow Black Army. Venlo play home games at De Koel, the stadium which is able to hold up to 8,000 spectators.
Japan international Keisuke Honda is one of the most notable international footballers who played for the club. However, Honda is not the only Japanese player to wear the yellow jersey as the likes of Maya Yoshida, Robert Cullen, and Yuki Otsu played for the club as well. Roda JC are seen as one of the club’s main rivals, with the two clubs facing each other in the Limburgse derby.
