Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Venlo will be looking to build on a thrilling 5-3 win over Emmen when they take on Utrecht at De Oude Meerdijk on Friday evening. The Yellow Black Army kicked off the new Eredivisie campaign in style, and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play against Utrecht. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Greece international Georgios Giakoumakis, who scored a hat-trick on his Eredivisie debut. Utrecht, on the other hand, were not in action at the weekend.
The visitors aim to make a flying start to the season, but given Venlo’s display in the triumph over Emmen, we do not believe that away win should be considered. Anyhow, a lively contest is on the cards at De Oude Meerdijk, and we are tempted to put our money on over 2.5 goals.
Highlighted Player (Danny Post):
Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Danny Post is a Dutch footballer who plays for VVV-Venlo as a midfielder. Post started his senior career Haarlem, but after making no more than 14 appearances with the club, he joined Groningen in 2009.
The Dutch footballer player only one league game for the Green and White Army as he was loaned to Cambuur in 2010. The next stop in his career was Dordrecht, where he established himself as a first-team regular. After scoring four goals in 50 league appearances for the club, Danny Post moved to VVV-Venlo in 2013. Post made his VVV debut in a goalless draw with Eindhovan on August 2, 2013.
He scored his first goal for the club in a 3-0 win over Achilles ’29 on March 9, 2014. His main position is defensive midfield, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both central midfielder and centre-back. His preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Utrecht):
Established on July 1, 1970, Utrecht is a Dutch club that competes in the Eredivisie. The club was founded as a merger of VV DOS, USV Elinkwijk, and Velox, and it has to be noted that VV DOS did well to win the Eredivisie trophy back in 1958.
Utrecht, on the other hand, have yet to win the national championship, but they have lifted three KNVB Cup trophies (1984/85, 2002/03, 2003/04). Leo van Veen is leading the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 153 goals. Speaking of the club’s colours, they were white and red shirts when playing at home, while blue is the dominant colour of their away jersey.
Due to the hooligan clashes, Utrecht have a rivalry with Dutch giants Ajax. The games between the two clubs have always been very tense on the field. Utrecht welcome their rivals at Stadion Galgenwaard, the venue which can hold up to 23,750 people. The stadium was opened back in May 1936.
