Our match prediction:
Newcastle’s top flight status will be at stake when they face Crystal Palace on Matchday 36. The Magpies proved their worth in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the weekend, but they need to record a win over Palace on Saturday if they are to escape the relegation zone. Rafa Benitez’s men are just one point behind the safe zone, meaning that they are likely to fight tooth and nail against Eagles in order to return to winning ways in the national championship. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, have been struggling in the second half of the season, but, as things stand now, they will almost certainly participate in the English elite division next season. By beating Watford (2-1) at Wembley Stadium at the weekend the capital club set up a meeting with Manchester United, meaning that Alan Pardew’s troops are enjoying yet another successful season. Saturday’s football game, though, is of much bigger importance for Newcastle and we predict that the Magpies will emerge triumphant in the St. James’ Park match.
Highlighted Team (Newcastle United):
Newcastle United failed to impress in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign and, as a result, they dropped to the English second tier. The Magpies will host their rivals at their St. James’ Park in the 2016/2017 Championship campaign and it has to be noted that the capacity of the stadium is 52,354. Newcastle United have won four domestic trophies (1904/1905, 1906/1907, 1908/1909, 1926/1927), while lifting six FA Cup titles (1910, 1924, 1932, 1951, 1952, 1955) and a number of star players were part of the St. James’ Park outfit in the past. David Ginola, Michael Owen, Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Nolberto Solano, Gary Speed, Obafemi Martins and Kevin Nolan are notable footballers who are still remembered at the club. Newcastle’s fiercest rivals are Sunderland and there have always been fireworks when the two local rivals face each other in the Tyne-Wear derby. The colour of Newcastle’s home kit is black and white.
