Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Buoyed by a thrilling 3-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League derby, Manchester City welcome Middlesbrough at their Etihad Stadium on day 11 of the new Premier League campaign. The Citizens aim to retain top position in the standings and they are widely expected to go all guns blazing at the newcomers. Kun Aguero scored a brace in a 4-0 win over WBA at the weekend and the Argentine attacker will certainly pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. Ilkay Gundogan has been in a splendid form of late as well and he will be yet another man to watch in the home team. Middlesbrough did well to hold Arsenal to a goalless draw in their last away game in the English top flight, but preventing high-flying Manchester City from scoring is easier said than done. Pep Guardiola’s men are high on confidence ahead of the visit of Boro and we predict that the league leaders are going to pick up all three points from Saturday’s football match.
Highlighted Player (Ilkay Gundogan):
Ilkay Gundogan is a German footballer of Turkish origin who made a name for himself playing for Borussia Dortmund. The skilful midfielder began his professional career at VFL Bochum, but it was at Nurnberg that he was given the opportunity to prove his undoubted potential. He needed just two years to make Germany’s top clubs stand up and take notice and the Millionaires secured his signature for mere €4 million. That would prove to be a great investment as Gundogan quickly slotted straight into the starting line-up and became a playmaker in the side led by Jurgen Klopp and later Thomas Tuchel. The midfield maestro kept being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal, but he resisted temptation to leave Borussia Dortmund, winning one Bundesliga trophy with the club and making it to the Champions League final. Gundogan unfortunately missed the 2014 World Cup finals through injury, but there is still time for the BVB star to make things right and lift a major international trophy with Germany.
Highlighted Team (Middlesbrough):
Middlesbrough is a professional football club that have been balancing between the top two divisions of England’s league system in the modern history. Boro have been playing their home games at the Riverside Stadium since 1995 and their shirt colour is red. The capacity of the Riverside Stadium is 34,742. Middlesbrough impressed in the 2015/2016 Championship campaign and they did really well to secure promotion to the English top flight. Newcastle United and Sunderland are regarded as the club’s main rivals, but there is a rivalry with Leeds United as well.
Middlesbrough made it to the FA Cup final in 1997, but Chelsea proved to be a big catch for the Boro in the title game (0-2). However, the Riverside Stadium outfit did remarkably well to win the League Cup trophy in 2004, with the team beating Bolton Wanderers in the final. George Boateng, Stewart Downing, Juninho Paulista, Gareth Southgate, Jonathan Woodgate, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Tuncay Sanli and Hamilton Ricard are the star footballers who left their mark at Middlesbrough.
