Our football match prediction:
Athletic Bilbao were on the verge of beating star-studded Atletico Madrid at their San Mames at the weekend, but Antoine Griezmann eventually scored a late equalizer for the capital club. The Lions failed to put an end to their three-match winless run in all competitions, but they are likely to pick up all three points from Sunday’s football match against Sporting Gijon. Key attacker Aritz Aduriz returns from suspension and we predict that the former Valencia man is going to prove a handful for the opposition back-line. Sporting Gijon have yet to record a win on the road in the 2016/2017 La Liga campaign and they are unlikely to spoil Athletic Bilbao’s party at San Mames. When the two teams met in the Basque country last season Ernesto Valverde’s team recorded a routine 3-0 win over los Rojiblancos andwe believe that the history is going to repeat itself.
Highligted Player (Iker Muniain):
Iker Munian was once considered one of the most talented players in Spain, but he obviously failed to reach his full potential. Munian is an attacking midfielder, who is capable of playing as a forward as well and he began his youth career at Chantrea. In 2005 he made probably the best decision of his career as he joined Athletic Bilbao youth academy. He made his debut for Athletic Bilbao on 30 July, 2009 in a 1-0 loss to Young Boys in the Europa League. Iker Munian impressed in the 2011/2012 La Liga campaign with the Lions, scoring nine goals in all competitions, but he failed to make a bigger progress. The Athletic Bilbao product has been struggling with injuries and it has to be noted that the injury he suffered against Sevilla on 4 April, 2015 could have ruined his career. However, he returned to action on 20 December, but he was playing below expectations in the second half of the season. Iker Munian made his Spain debut on 29 February, 2012 in a friendly against Venezuela. La Roja won the match 5-0 and Munian came as a substitute in the 74th minute of the match.
Highlighted Team (Sporting Gijon):
Sporting Gijon are a Spanish football club that competes in La Liga. Sporting Gijon’s home ground is El Molinon, the stadium that was built in 1908. El Molinon is the oldest football field in Spain and the capacity of the stadium is 30,000. Sporting Gijon’s home kit is red and white and the club’s main rivals are Real Oviedo. The two teams take on each other in the Asturian derby. Sporting Gijon did remarkably well to finish the 1978/1979 La Liga campaign in second position in the standings and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Los Rojiblancos were runners-up in Spanish Copa del Rey in 1981 and 1982, but they have yet to win the Spanish Cup. The club was founded in 1905 and the club’s original name was Sporting Gijones. Sporting Gijon participated in the UEFA Cup on six occasions, but they did not record a good result in the European competition.
