Our football match prediction:
Barcelona will be looking to build on a routine win over Osasuna when they welcome Espanyol at their Camp Nou in Sunday’s Catalan derby. Barca impressed in the 3-0 victory over the rock-bottom team, with Leo Messi scoring a brace for the title holders and, no doubt, the “Argentine magician” will be the man to watch in the home team. The good news for Barcelona fans is that Neymar returns from suspension and the Brazilian superstar will certainly help the hosts roll over Espanyol in the local derby. Los Periquitos are on a nine-game unbeaten run in the league, but they face an uphill task in Sunday’s football match against Leo Messi and Co. Luis Enrique’s men face a must-win situation against Espanyol and we predict that the reigning champions are going to melt Real Madrid’s advantage to three points. You should know that Barca hammered los Periquitos 5-0 in their last meeting at Camp Nou.
Highlighted Player (Arda Turan):
Arda Turan is one of the most famous footballers in the history of Turkish football and he is widely tipped to break Rusti Recber’s record of 120 caps for Milli Takim. The attacking midfielder came to prominence at Galatasaray, while also impressing as Turkey reached the Euro 2008 semi-finals, and he immediately received offers from top European clubs to cash in on his impressive showings. However, it would take another three years before he finally decided to accept the call from Atletico Madrid, thus becoming the most expensive Turkish footballer. Turan played a key role for Diego Simeone’s side that impressed in both Spain and Europe from 2011 onwards, lifting the league trophy with los Colchoneros and narrowly missing out on the Champions League title. Achieving a superstar status in his country, Turan always performed well for the Turkey national team, making more than 90 appearances for Milli Takim before the age of 30, and scoring more than 15 goals.
Highlighted Team (Espanyol):
Espanyol are a Catalan club that plays in Spanish La Liga. Espanyol were founded in 1900 and their original name was Sociedad Espanola de Football. In 1901 the Catalan club changed its name to Club Espanol de Futbol. Los Periquitos used to play in bright yellow shirts in the past, but current colour of the team’s home kit is blue and white. Espanyol’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona and the two teams face each other in the Catalan derby (Derbi barceloni). Espanyol have always been in Barca’s shadow, but it has to be noted that los Periquitos have won four Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup trophies). The likes of Raul Tamudo, Jose Maria, Antonio Argiles and Mauricio Pochettino are players with most appearances for the Catalan outfit. Espanyol play their home games at Estadio Cornella-El Prat and the capacity of the stadium is 40,500. Los Periquitos have never participated in the Champions League.
