Our football match prediction:
Barcelona were more than fortunate to beat Leganes in their last home fixture in La Liga and thanks to Leo Messi’s late goal the title holders defeated Atletico Madrid in Sunday’s football match. However, seeing that Real Madrid came from behind to beat Villarreal on Matchday 24, the Catalan giants remained in second place in the La Liga standings. Luis Enrique’s troops face a must-win situation in Wednesday’s clash against Sporting Gijon and seeing that Rubi’s men are having a season to forget, we predict that the reigning champions will extend their winning run in the national championship. Sporting Gijon have already suffered eight defeats on the road this season and they are unlikely to spoil Barcelona’s party at Camp Nou. Barca scored 11 goals in previous two meetings between the two teams and, taking everything into account, Leo Messi and Co. are likely to crush the relegation-threatened team.
Highlighted Player (Luis Suarez):
Luis Suarez is a controversial footballer who plays for La Liga side Barcelona as a striker. The Uruguayan forward moved to Europe in 2006, signing a deal with Groningen. After scoring 10 goals in 27 league appearances for the club in the 2006/2007 Eredivisie campaign, he joined Ajax at the end of the season. The prolific striker scored no less than 81 goals in 110 appearances for Ajax and, as a result, Liverpool chiefs decided to sign him on 31 January 2011. Suarez became the club’s most expensive signing and he was producing thrilling performances with the Anfield outfit between 2011 and 2014. Liverpool were on the verge of winning the 2013/2014 Premier League trophy, but Steven Gerrard slipped in the decider against Chelsea and they eventually finished the season in second place in the standings. In 2014 Suarez joined Barcelona and he was the top scorer in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. He won the 2013/2014 Premier League Golden Boot as well and in 2011 he clinched the Copa America trophy with Uruguay.
Highlighted Team (Sporting Gijon):
Sporting Gijon are a Spanish football club that competes in La Liga. Sporting Gijon’s home ground is El Molinon, the stadium that was built in 1908. El Molinon is the oldest football field in Spain and the capacity of the stadium is 30,000. Sporting Gijon’s home kit is red and white and the club’s main rivals are Real Oviedo. The two teams take on each other in the Asturian derby. Sporting Gijon did remarkably well to finish the 1978/1979 La Liga campaign in second position in the standings and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Los Rojiblancos were runners-up in Spanish Copa del Rey in 1981 and 1982, but they have yet to win the Spanish Cup. The club was founded in 1905 and the club’s original name was Sporting Gijones. Sporting Gijon participated in the UEFA Cup on six occasions, but they did not record a good result in the European competition.
