Our match prediction:
Celta Vigo will be looking to record their first win of the season when they welcome Sporting Gijon at their Estadio de Balaidos on Wednesday evening. Os Celeste are desperate to escape the relegation zone and they are certainly capable of beating los Rojiblancos in front of home fans. Several important players left the club in the summer transfer window, but we predict that the likes of Iago Aspas and new signing Giuseppe Rossi are going to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. Sporting Gijon suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to Atletico Madrid at Estadio Vicente Calderon at the weekend, meaning that they head into Wednesday’s football match with the lack of confidence. Celta Vigo are a real force to be reckoned with at home and, taking everything into account, home win appears on the horizon. You should bear in mind that Os Celeste defeated Sporting Gijon twice in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign.
Highligted Player (Guidetti):
John Guidetti is one of Sweden’s most talented forwards and the man tipped to replace superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the national team. The highly rated footballer left Brommapojkarna soon after being promoted to the first team set-up, joining Premier League giants Manchester City. And while he never got a chance to shine at Etihad Stadium, Guidetti proved a great deal of potential during loan spells with Feyenoord and Celtic, and eventually earned a permanent contract with La Liga high flyers Celta Vigo. The talented striker has yet to nail down a regular starting berth at Balaidos, but he has been using the time spent on the pitch wisely, and continued his goalscoring form in Spain’s top flight. Playing alongside Nolito and Iago Aspas at club level as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Berg on international stage is bound to further aid the player’s development, and many believe he will go on to become one of Sweden’s best ever strikers. Guidetti has so far only made a handful of appearances for Blagult, but that is bound to change in years to come.
Highlighted Team (Sporting Gijon):
Sporting Gijon are a Spanish football club that competes in La Liga. Sporting Gijon’s home ground is El Molinon, the stadium that was built in 1908. El Molinon is the oldest football field in Spain and the capacity of the stadium is 30,000. Sporting Gijon’s home kit is red and white and the club’s main rivals are Real Oviedo. The two teams take on each other in the Asturian derby. Sporting Gijon did remarkably well to finish the 1978/1979 La Liga campaign in second position in the standings and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Los Rojiblancos were runners-up in Spanish Copa del Rey in 1981 and 1982, but they have yet to win the Spanish Cup. The club was founded in 1905 and the club’s original name was Sporting Gijones. Sporting Gijon participated in the UEFA Cup on six occasions, but they did not record a good result in the European competition.
