Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Athletic Bilbao have been in a thrilling form of late. The Lions are on a four-game winning run in La Liga and they will be looking to build on the Europa League triumph over Rapid Wien when they square off against Malaga in Sunday’s football match. Los Boquerones have been playing below expectations this season and, as things stand now, the Andalusian outfit will be more than happy should they happen to secure the top flight survival. Athletic Bilbao have been producing much better performances in the national championship than their next rivals and we predict that Ernesto Valverde’s men are going to extend their winning run in La Liga to five games. Benat scored a wonder goal against Rapid Wien, but a man to watch in the away team will be experienced attacker Aritz Aduriz, who has netted three goals in six league appearances in the new Primera Division campaign.
Highlighted Player (Roque Santa Cruz):
Roque Santa Cruz is one of the tallest strikers for Paraguay over the years. The 34-year-old striker has last appeared for the Spanish club Malaga on loan from Mexican club Cruz Azul. The lanky striker started his career in the youth teams of Olimpia and made his first-team debut at the age of 15 in 1997. His prolific scoring record with Olimpia earned him a transfer to German giants Bayern Munich in 1999 for a fee of €5 million. The initial promise didn’t convert to reality because of a series of injuries and heavy competition from team mates. His limited impact and appearances restricted his prolific scoring although he won numerous Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles with Bayern. Santa Cruz joined Manchester City in 2009 but injuries limited his performances. He is currently the all-time leading goal scorer for Paraguay with 32 goals and also the sixth ever player to reach 100 appearances.
Highlighted Team (Athletic Bilbao):
Athletic Club (mostly known as Athletic de Bilbao) is a Spanish football club from the Bask region which is playing currently in the Primera Division. The club from Bilbao is playing in the highest Spanish division since its founded in 1928 and is next to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for a longest period of time in the Primera Division. Athletic de Bilbao used to play until 2012 in the San Mames stadium (also known as La Catedral).
Since 2013 the club is playing in anew stadium. Athletic Bilbao is known for its rivalry with Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid was founded by Bask students in Madrid. The old relationship between both teams is visible in the red blue jerseys of both teams.
The second team Athletic de Bilbao is playing in the Segunda Division B in Spain. Athletic Bilbao won the Primera Division 8 times, the Copa del Rey 24 times, the Spanish super cup 2 times. Athletic de Bilbao didn’t won any prizes in Europe yet but managed to be the runner up in 1977 and 2012 in the UEFA cup.
