Our football match prediction:
Milan have been struggling in front of goal of late. Following a 1-0 loss to Roma at Stadio Olimpico, the Rossoneri played out a goalless draw with Atalanta in their last league match. However, Vincenzo Montella and his men gave fans some cheer on 23 December as they defeated Juventus in the Italian Super Cup. Milan are high on confidence ahead of the visit of Cagliari and we predict that the hosts will emerge triumphant in Sunday’s football match. A win over the Rossoblu could see the Rossoneri climb to the Champions League berth in the standings. Cagliari are tough to beat at home, but their away showings leave a lot to be desired and the underdogs are unlikely to claim a major scalp on day 19. You should have in mind that the Rossoblu have already suffered seven defeats on the road in the 2016/2017 Serie A campaign. Carlos Bacca returned to the starting XI against Juventus and the Colombian attacker is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts against Cagliari.
Highlighted Player (Matias Fernandez):
Matias Fernandez was born in Argentina but there was never a doubt that he would turn up for Chile. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder started his senior professional career with Colo-Colo in 2004 and was pivotal to the Chilean club winning the 2006 Clausura tournament. He would then go on to sign for Spanish side Villarreal after spurning advances from many top clubs. But his time at Villarreal was mostly spent on bench eventually leaving for Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2009. He remained an important part of their attacking unit and started earning plaudits for his skills. In 2012 he moved to Italian club Fiorentina. The versatile midfielder is renowned for his dribbling skills and as a free-kick specialist. He already has 71 caps with the Chilean national team and has appeared in the 2010 World Cup and four Copa America tournaments so far. Fernandez was also chosen as ‘South American Footballer of the Year’ in 2006.
Highlighted Team (Cagliari):
Cagliari are a professional football club based in Cagliari, Sardinia. I Rossoblu (The Red and Blues) compete in Italian Serie A and the club’s biggest success came in 1970, when they won the national championship. Cagliari finished the season in top position in the standings, four points clear of Juventus and it has to be noted that Luigi Riva led Cagliari to their first Serie A trophy. I Rossoblu welcome their rivals at Stadio Sant’Elia and the capacity of the stadium is 16,000. In the 1993/1994 season Cagliari made it to the UEFA Cup semis, with the team suffering a loss to fellow Italian club Inter in the two-legged tie. Giuseppe Pancaro helped Cagliari record a 3-2 win over Inter in the first leg, but I Rossoblu were hammered by the Nerazzurri in the second leg (3-0). Palermo are regarded as Cagliari’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the Derby delle Isole.
