Our football match prediction:
Sampdoria take on newcomers Benevento in the opening match of the season. La Samp head into Sunday’s football match following a 3-0 win over Foggia in the Coppa Italia and they surely want to give fans yet another reason for celebration. Marco Giampaolo’s men were playing below expectations in pre-season, but the Italian Cup victory helped the team regain a much-needed confidence. It is well known that Sampdoria are a real force to be reckoned with at home and we predict that Fabio Quagliarella and Co. are going to emerge triumphant in their opener. Benevento proved their worth in the 2016/2017 Serie B campaign, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry in the Italian top flight and we do not believe that the newcomers are capable of spoiling Sampdoria’s party at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris. In previous two meetings between the two teams (Italian Cup) La Samp defeated the Stregoni.
Highlighted Player (Dennis Praet):
Dennis Praet is Belgian international who plays for Sampdoria as an attacking midfielder. Praet was born in Leuven, Belgium on 14 May, 1994 and he played for Anderlecht from 2011 to 2016. The Belgian footballer moved to Sampdoria at the end of the 2015/2016 season, signing a deal with the Serie A team for a fee of €10 million. The Sampdoria midfielder made his Serie A debut on 28 August, 2016 in 2-1 win over Atalanta. Dennis Praet played for all Belgium youth teams and he made his debut for the senior team in a 3-1 win over Iceland on 12 November, 2014. The Sampdoria footballer replaced Christian Benteke in the 76th minute of the game. The Belgian footballer won three league titles with Anderlecht and he received Belgian Golden Shoe award in 2014. Praet can play on both wings, but his main position is attacking midfield. His contract with Sampdoria expires on 30 June, 2021 and his highest market value was €9 million on 7 January, 2015.
Highlighted Team (Benevento):
FC Benevento secured promotion to the Serie A for the first time in their history at the end of the 2016/2017 campaign, but it has to be noted that they finished the regular season in 5th place in the standings. The Stregoni (Witches) did well to beat Perugia and Carpi in the promotion play-offs and, as a result, they are going to taste a top-flight football. Benevento were founded in 1929 as Associazione Calcio Benevento and back then they played their home games at Meomartini, the venue which was built by Ciccio Minocchia. Nowadays, the Stregoni welcome their rivals at Stadio Giro Vigorito and the capacity of the stadium is 12.847. Benevento are well known for their yellow jerseys with red stripes, whilst they wear white shirts and white shorts when playing on the travels. After Napoli, Salernitana and Avellino Benevento become the fourth club from Campania to compete in the Serie A. Matches between the aforementioned teams are well known as Campania derbies.
