Our prediction for this Serie A match:
As expected, Roma recorded a 3-1 win over relegation strugglers Frosinone at the weekend. Life after Gervinho continues at Stadio Olimpico and it has to be noted that his replacement Stephan El Shaarawy found the net in the comfortable win over the Canarini. The Giallorossi stayed in the race for a place in the Champions League, but they need to keep on making progress if they are to turn their dream into reality. Roma face Sassuolo at Stadio Citta del Tricolore on Tuesday evening and seeing that the Neroverdi are on a five-match winless run at home ground, we would not be surprised if the visitors pick up all three points from the match. Eusebio di Francesco’s men do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment and, taking everything into account, they are unlikely to record their first ever win over Roma in the Serie A.
Highlighted Player (Maicon):
Maicon Douglas Sisenando was born in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil on 26 July, 1981. The powerful full back started his senior career at Cruzeiro and in 2004 he moved to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. After making 58 league appearances for les Rouges et Blancs he signed a five-year contract with Inter in 2006 and he won four Serie A trophies with the Nerazzurri.
In the 2009/2010 he participated in the Champions League final and he helped the Italian outfit beat Bayern Munich in the title game. On 31 August, 2012 Maicon moved to England, signing a deal with Manchester City, but he made no more than nine league appearances for the Citizens in the 2012/2013 season.
On 18 July, 2013 the Brazilian footballer returned to Italy as Man City allowed him to join AS Roma on a free transfer. He made 28 appearances for the Giallorossi in the 2013/2014 Serie A campaign, with the capital club finishing the season in second place in the standings. Maicon has 76 caps for Brazilian national team.
Highlighted Team (AS Roma):
AS Roma is a professional football club based in Rome. Roma were founded by a merger in 1927 and they play in the Italian Serie A. Roma’s fiercest rivals are Lazio and it has to be noted that both capital clubs play their home games at Stadio Olimpico. The two local rivals face each other in the Derby della Capitale, which is considered one of the most exciting derbies in the world of football.
The Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds) have won three Serie A titles (1941/1942, 1982/1983, 2000/2001), while winning nine Coppa Italia trophies. The colour of Roma’s shirts is imperial purple with a golden yellow trim. A number of top-class footballers were part of Roma in the past, but Francesco Totti is undisputedly the club’s biggest legend. The Prince of Rom made his 601 appearances for Roma on 14 May, 2016 when the Giallorossi recorded a 3-1 win over Milan at Stadio San Siro.
