Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Salford City will be aiming to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Mansfield Town when they host Colchester United at their Peninsula Stadium. The Lions continue with their habit of producing much better showings at home than on the travels, and it is no surprise bookies see them as favourites to win Saturday’s clash. Boss Richie Wellens should opt to make changes to the team than faced the Yellows, with both Turnbull and Elliott pushing for a start.
The U’s, on the other hand, have been struggling in front of goal of late, with the team failing to find the net in the previous three league fixtures. Since Salford City have turned their Peninsula Stadium into a real fortress, we predict that the visitors are going to return home empty-handed. It has to be noted that the Lions are undefeated at home in the 2020/21 League Two season.
Highlighted Player (Richie Towell):
Richie Towell is a professional footballer who was born in Dublin, Ireland on July 17, 1991. After starting his youth career at Crumlin United, Towell was spotted by Celtic scouts in 2007, and he decided to join the famous Scottish outfit.
However, he made only one appearance for the Hoops at senior level, coming as a substitute for Jos Hooiveld in a 2-2 draw with Inverness in November 2010. Ritchie Towell played for the likes of Hibernian (loan), Dundalk, Brighton, and Rotherham United (loan) as well before signing a deal with his current club Salford City.
The Salford City midfielder has nine caps with the Republic of Ireland U21 team, but he has yet to earn a call-up with the senior team. His primary position is central midfield, but he is used as an attacking midfielder as well. Richie Towell has two Irish Premier League trophies with Dundalk (2013, 2014).
Highlighted Team (Colchester):
Founded in 1937, Colchester United are a professional football club that compete in the League Two, the English fourth tier. The U’s welcome their rivals at Colchester Community Stadium, the venue which has the capacity of 10,105 people.
Colchester United are well known for their blue kit, but white is the dominant colour of their away kit. The U’s have an official fans association known as the CUSA. Colchester supporters consider Wycombe Wanderers the club’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalries with Southend United and Ipswich Town are big as well. Colchester United did well to win the FA Trophy in the 1991/92 season, with the team clinching the Essex Senior Cup trophy in the 2009/10 season.
In December 1961 the U’s recorded their biggest win, with the team rolling over Bradford City 9-1 in the Fourth Division. Colchester United repeated the success 44 years later as they hammered Leamington 9-1 in the FA Cup round 1.
