Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
AZ Alkmaar will be aiming to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Emmen when they host Heerenveen at their AFAS Stadion on Matchday 22. Pascal Jansen’s troops aim to keep their Champions League hopes alive, and we are positive that they will go for a win in Sunday’s showdown. Even though the likes of Svensson, Vlaar, de Wit, and van der Wacht have been struggling with injuries of late, home win should be considered.
Heerenveen, on the other hand, defeated Vitesse at the weekend thanks to Henk Veerman’s goal, with the team moving closer to the Europa League berth. However, we are tempted to put our money on AZ Alkmaar this time out as Johnny Jansen’s troops are not regarded as good travellers. It has to be noted that in the first half of the season AZ crushed Heerenveen 3-0 at Abe Lenstra Stadion.
Highlighted Player (Bruno Martins Indi):
Bruno Martins Indi was born in Portugal, but his family quickly moved to Rotterdam, where he joined Feyenoord’s youth set-up in 2005. Netherlands international has made his professional debut in 2010 with Feyenoord, where he spent four years as mainstay before a move to FC Porto on the back of impressive display at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Bruno Martins Indi spent most of his career playing as centre-back, but he can equally fill in on various positions in defence. Bruno Martins Indi had been deemed a victim to the extreme recolution in Porto’s central defensive department, having fallen out of favour with Nuno Espirito Santo and even being punished with a place in Porto’s reserves.
During the summer transfer window the 24-year-old defender insisted on a move away from the club with Premier League being his preferred destination. On the final day of the transfer marked Bruno Martins Indi has been set to Stoke City on a season long loan.
Highlighted Team (Heerenveen):
Heerenveen is a Dutch football club that is well known for their white shirts with blue stripes. De Superfriezen (The Super Frisians) play home matches at Abe Lenstra Stadium, which has the capacity of 26,400 people.
Heerenveen have yet to win the Eredivisie title, but they impressed in the 1999/00 season, with the team finishing the process in second position in the standings. Thanks to a top-two finish, the club booked their place in the Champions League. Heerenveen, though, recorded only one in the group stages of the elite competition as they defeated Olympiakos 1-0 at home ground. De Superfizien retain a fierce rivals with Cambuur, and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two teams.
It has to be noted that Heerenveen won the Dutch Cup in the 2008/09 season, with the team beating Twente on penalties in the title game. New Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech played for Heerenveen at the start of his senior career.
