Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Nimes will be aiming to build on a 2-1 win over Lille when they take on St Etienne at Stade des Costieres on Sunday afternoon. Les Crocodiles did well to beat the league leaders on the road, with the team putting an end to their three-game winless run. Nimes, though, need to keep on improving their game if they are to avoid relegation to the French second tier. Lamine Fomba is banned for the match, while Aribi, Briancon, Buades, Martinez, Sarr, and Depres remain in the recovery room.
Les Verts, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 4-0 loss to St Etienne, and given the importance of Sunday’s clash for les Crocodiles, home win should be considered. All Arnaud Nordin, Adil Aouchiche, and Jessy Moulin have been tested positive for coronavirus, which is yet another reason why we are tempted to put our money on the hosts.
Highlighted Player (Baptiste Reynet):
Baptiste Reynet is a goalkeeper who was born in Romans, France on October 28, 1990. After playing for the likes of Moursoise and Valence at youth level, he joined Martigue football academy in 2007. The 185-cm-tall shoot-stopper made 53 appearances for the Martigues first team and in 2011 he moved to Dijon.
Baptiste Reynet was producing fine performances with the Mustards in the 2012/2013 Ligue 2 campaign and, as a result, Lorient chiefs decided to bring him to Stade du Moustoir. Reynet, though, played only six games for les Merlus in the French top flight as he was loaned back to Dijon after only one year at Lorient.
The French goalkeeper impressed in the 2015/2016 Ligue 2 campaign and it has to be noted that he made 17 clean sheets in the process. Baptiste Reynet, who has established himself as a first-choice shoot-stopper at Dijon has a contract with the club which expired on June 30, 2021.
Highlighted Team (St Etienne):
Saint Etienne are a professional football club that compete in French Ligue 1. Les Verts were founded in 1919 by employees of a grocery store chain based in Saint Etienne. Saint Etienne wear green shirts and white shorts when playing at home ground and they play their home matches at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
The stadium was opener on 13 September, 1931 and following the renovation the capacity of the venue increased to 42 000. In 1981 les Verts won their tenth Ligue 1 trophy, but they have been in the shadow of Ligue 1 giants Lyon and PSG in the 21st century.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Saint Etienne made it to the European Cup (Champions League) final in 1976, but Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich proved to be a big catch for the French outfit. Anyhow, that is regarded as the club’s biggest success. It has to be noted that the likes of Michel Platini, Jacques Santini, Laurent Blanc and Aime Jacquet all played for Saint Etienne in the past.
