St Etienne will be aiming to build on a 2-0 win over Nimes when they take on Bordeaux at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Sunday afternoon. Les Verts regained a much-needed confidence at the weekend, and they are surely capable of matching Bordeaux at home ground. Keep in mind, though, that Ryad Boudebouz, Stefan Bajic, Alpha Sissoko, and Yvann Macon remain on the sidelines with injuries.
Les Girondins aim to make amends for a 3-2 loss to Strasbourg, and seeing that they are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in Sunday’s clash as well, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. The likes of Samuel Kalu, Dilane Bakwa, and Otavio are all out of contention through injuries, but there are no suspended players in the away team. In the first half of the season St Etienne defeated Bordeaux 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Ryad Boudebouz):
Despite being born in Colmar, France on February 19, 1990 Ryad Boudebouz represents Algeria on the international stage. The Montpellier midfielder played for both France U17 and France U19 teams in the past, but he made his senior debut with Algeria on May 28, 2010 in a friendly against Republic of Ireland.
Speaking of his club career, Boudebouz played for Colmar and Sochaux at youth level and he continued playing for Sochaux first team. After scoring 24 goals in 164 appearances in the league for the club, he moved to Bastia in 2013 and he played 66 games for les Bleus.
Ryad Boudebouz played for the Corsican side from 2013 to 2015 and he signed a four-year deal with Montpellier and you should know that he netted 11 goals in 33 appearances for la Paillade in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign. His main position is attacking midfield, but he is capable of playing at both left and right winger as well.

Founded in 1881, Bordeaux are regarded as one of the oldest clubs in France. Les Girondins won their first Ligue 1 trophy in 1950 and 59 years later (2008/2009) they lifted their sixth domestic trophy.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Bordeaux did remarkably well to make it to the Champions League semi-finals in 1985, but despite recording a 2-0 win over star-studded Juventus in the return leg, the French club eventually failed to book their place in the final of the elite competition.
Famous French footballers Alain Giresse and Jean Tigana were part of the team back then and it has to be noted that Giresse is the player who made the most appearances for les Girondins (587). During the nineties Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu played for Bordeaux and, taking everything into account, it is no surprise they are considered one of the most famous French clubs.
Nowadays Les Girondins welcome their rivals at Matmut Atlantique, the stadium which was opened in 2015 and they used to play at Stade Chaban-Delmas in the past.
