Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Monaco play host to Dijon at their Stade Louis II in what is expected to be a David-vs-Goliath clash. Les Rouges et Blancs aim to stay in the title race, and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at the rock-bottom side. Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni returns from suspension, while Sofiane Diop and Willem Geubbels are out of contention through injuries. Ruben Aguilar has been tested positive for coronavirus.
Dijon, on the other hand, are having a season to forget, with the team collecting no more than 15 points in total. The rock-bottom team will almost certainly compete in the Ligue 2 next term, and given their dreadful losing run, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Kevin Volland and Co, who rolled over Metz 4-0 in their last league match. Assale and Ebimbe should be the only absentees in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Djibril Sidibé):
Born in Troyes, Djibril Sidibe made his first football steps at his hometown club. Having excelled throughout the youth ranks, Sidibe was rewarded with his professional debut in 2010. Two years later he moved to Lille where he established himself as one of the biggest prospects in French football.
A 2016 move to Ligue 1 giants Monaco came as a reward for his impressive qualities. Sidibe is a solid right-back who is great at picking out passes, especially with crosses. A determined individual, Sidibe does not easily get caught out in a wide space. His impressive footwork make him a difficult player to play against going forward which he has a knack for.
Monaco are expected to be another stepping stone in his career and it won’t be too long before the World Cup winning French international has made a move to one of Europe’s top sides.
Highlighted Team (Dijon):
Founded in 1998, Dijon is a result of a merger between two local clubs. The Mustards played their first ever match in the Ligue 1 on August 7, 2011, with the team suffering a heavy 5-1 loss on their debut in the French top flight. After suffering relegation to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2011/2012 season, the club returned to the French elite division in 2016.
The Mustards finished the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign in 16th place in the standings, only one point clear of the relegation zone. Dijon are well known for their red jerseys, while they wear white when playing on the road. The Mustards welcome their rivals at Stade Gaston Gerard, the venue which was both built and opened in 1934. In the 1998/1999 season the club recorded a historical 12-1 Coupe de France win over Mahault Baie and that is considered the club’s biggest ever win in a competitive match.
Stephane Mangione, who made 181 appearances for the club, is regarded as one of the team’s famous players.
